2009 Draft Recap

Dr. Donovan

The 2009 NFL draft is in the books and its time to recap which teams upgraded and which were embarrassments. When it comes to the draft, we can expect some of the same things every year. The hype before the draft always outweighs the excitement during the picks. A couple of disappointments were big name players such as Anquon Boldin and Plaxico Burress not being traded. We did have some trades in the first round though. The Jets were the big movers in the draft by jumping from #17 to grab future USC QB, Mark “The Dirty” Sanchez. They filled a huge need by doing this but only time will tell if this kid pans out. The reason I don’t think it was a horrible move is because they didn’t give up much to get him. They gave up their #17 and a 2nd round pick and 3 players who won’t be missed by Jets fans anyway. Small price to pay for a big name like Sanchez.

The Browns, on the other hand, steadily traded themselves out of the first round to package picks. The Pats and the Browns really owned the bulk of the picks in the 2nd round. A couple of teams to note who really improved their teams were the Detroit Lions and Cincinnati Bengals. We weren’t surprised that Detroit went with Stafford at #1. That was a must. Their 2nd first rounder was a little more surprising. They had a chance to take the #4 OT in Michael Oher, a stud middle LB in Rey Mauluaga but instead went for the unanimous #1 TE in Brandon Pettigrew. I think this was a fine pick for the fact that this ship is going to take more than a year to build so why not take the best player available. This guy will help as a receiver and also help the running game right away. They also got S Loius Delmas who should be a stud. The Lions defense is steadily adding big name guys but will still be suspect as they didn’t get anymore help in this draft. The line is also suspect so don’t expect the Lions to be the next Falcons. The offense will be fun to watch though.

The Bengals had a great draft this year surprisingly. The suspect move for them was their 1st pick choosing Andre Smith before Eugene Monroe. Other than that they got LB Rey Mauluaga in the 2nd round which is a major steal and also DE Michael Johnson and TE Chase Coffman. This is a draft that could fly or flop and we will know in the next 3 years. The Eagles also made a splash this year grabbing a great value WR in Jeremy Maclin and also RB LeSean McCoy. They also grabbed a possible sleeper TE in Cornelius Bennet from Florida . Now i'm not saying these guys will pan out but they filled their 3 biggest needs with the first 3 picks. This is clearly a team that “gets it” when building a football team.

The Houston Texans and Green Bay Packers really soaped up their defenses. The Pack grabbed DT BJ Raji and LB Clay Matthews who fell to the 2nd round. The Texans got USC LB Brian Cushing and also sleeper DE Connor Barwin. The Colts, Jets and Cardinals and Broncos grabbed the top 4 RBs in Moreno, D. Brown, Wells and Shonn Greene. Each of these guys should see quite a bit of playing time over the next few years.

Winners of the draft: Lions (4 immediate impact players) and Bengals (if Smith, Johnson and Coffman turn out)

Loser of draft: Raiders and Al Davis’s bonehead move at #7 taking Heyward-Bey before Crabtree.

POINTSPREAD PETE-4/29

Pointspread Pete returns with what is described as a "huge" play:

DENVER NUGGETS -10.5 VS N.O. HORNETS

ROUND 2 PREDICTIONS

Round 1 of the 09 NHL playoffs is complete and as usual we saw great games, overtimes and upsets. It is still amazing the Sharks again completed their annual playoff choke job although they were facing a very good Anahiem squad. Heroes of the first round included Carolina's red hot goal scorer Eric Staal, Washington's 20 year old goalkeeper Simeon Vamalov and the entire Chicago Blackhawk blueline. Let's hope round 2 is as exciting as round 1!

CAROLINA HURRICANES VS BOSTON BRUINS-The Canes have been playing good hockey for the better part of two months now and are a real threat to knock off the top seeded Boston Bruins. The Bruins have been sitting at home for a week now so it'll be interesting to see if they have any rust in the first few games. I am still not sold on Tim Thomas being a Stanley Cup goaltender but I think the Bruins will prevail in a very entertaining and high scoring series, winning in 7.

WASHINGTON CAPITALS VS PITTSBURGH PENGUINS-The Gary Bettman special finally comes true as the two biggest stars in the NHL collide for the first time in the playoffs. The Caps are riding high after overcoming a 3 games to 1 defecit against the Rangers to advance to the 2nd round for the first time in 11 years. The Penguins eliminated the Flyers in a physical 6 game series. Although the Pens did not defeat the Caps in regulation in 4 tries during the regular season, most of the games were before the coaching change in Pittsburgh. Penguins take this one in 6.

VANCOUVER CANUCKS VS CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS-The Hawks surprised me with their first round victory over the Flames while the Cancuks had very little problem in sweep the Blues. These two teams engaged in a fight filled game at the end of the regular season which should add to an already interesting series. In the end, Roberto Luongo will be the difference as the Canucks advance in 7 games.

ANAHIEM DUCKS VS DETROIT REDWINGS-Anahiem is officially the team nobody wants to play right now after their stunning upset of San Jose. The Red Wings continue to roll on, defeating the Blue Jackets in round 1. This series provides two different styles of play with Detroit being more of a skilled and soft team while Anahiem is big and rough. In my mind, this series is a toss-up, I am going with Detroit in 7 but that could change very easily depending on which Chris Osgood shows up.

ON TO ROUND 2!

GAME 7'S TONIGHT!

Tonight in the NHL we have a pair of game 7's that will determine who advances to the second round. Even for the non-hockey fan, a NHL game 7 is must watch tv therefore I highly recommend all you donkeys reading this at home to skip American Idol or Survivor for one night and tune in.

WSH vs NYR-This series has been dominated by the Capitals even though they were they team fighting back from a 3-1 defecit. The Donald Brashear for Blair Betts trade-off is actually a good deal for the Caps. I expect Lundquist to be great tonight but the Caps will ultimately prevail, 3-2.

CAR VS NJD-The Devils return home for game 7 after a disgraceful game 6 effort in Carolina. The Hurricanes have had the better of the play for most of this series and their newly formed top line of Staal, Larose and Whitney looked fantastic last game. This one is headed to OT where Eric Staal will blow a wrist shot by Broduer to send the Canes into the 2nd round.

COACH K-4/26

I know my plays were not posted yesterday but we finished 8-4 in MLB +3.72 units cashing another 3* play, however we did drop a big 4* play on the Jazz in the NBA to ultimately cost us a profitable Saturday. The Lakers were again the largest public play last night and they ended up getting the money again. I will continue to fade the largest square bet in the NBA playoffs because it is only a matter of time before the linesmakers adjust and those squares start throwing away their money. Today they are again coming in huge on the Cavs in every direction so we'll go right ahead and take the Pistons. The Cavs will take this game off knowing the series is wrapped up and we should get a good effort from a veteran Pistons team today to keep us within the number. Good Luck!

MACK DRAFT 2.0

Dr. Donovan

1. Detroit (0-16) -Matt Stafford QB Georgia
The Lions are making their 2nd good move as an organization after getting rid of Matt Millen. They are making Matt Stafford and Aaron Curry bid to be the #1 pick. This will assure they get the best value and price for their guy. I see them announcing Stafford’s name followed by a chorus of boos echoing throughout Music City Hall.

2. St. Louis (2-14) - Jason Smith OT Baylor
The Rams are close to pulling the trigger on the sexy pick in Crabtree but instead are smart to draft an offensive lineman. It is rumored that they are shopping this pick as well. Smith makes more sense than Monroe here because he is a better run blocker and Spagnulo is relying through Steven Jackson. I still stand by my opinion that Monroe is the better player though.

3. Kansas City (2-14) – Aaron Curry LB Wake Forest
This pick is a no brainer to me. Curry can change the face of a defense by himself and with Kansas City running the 3-4, I think this is the guy he’s been waiting for. If they don’t pick this guy here, Kansas City has some serious issues in the scouting department.

4. Seattle (4-12) – Eugene Monroe OT Virginia
Most people have Jason Smith as the top OT (including myself earlier in the off-season) in this year’s draft but Eugene Monroe has shown me more and comes from a big time program that puts out a history of good offensive lineman. Seattle needs to buff up the offensive line big time and Monroe will help out immediately. They also are thinking about Crabtree here after going through the WR woes they had last year but realize it isn’t a vital need after signing Whosyourmomma.

5. Cleveland (4-12) – Brian Orakpo DE Texas
This guy has been steadily dropping after his pro-day workout and the fact that he is a 3-point stance guy which is a huge risk, ala Vernon Gholsten. The Brown’s need help on defense at almost every position so it would be smart to choose the best player on defense with this pick and I still think Orakpo is that guy.

6. Cincinnati (4-11-1) – Andre Smith OT Alabama
I don’t like this pick anymore than you do but we all know that some team has fallen in love with Andre Smith and if I had to guess, it would be the Bengals. This guy has had problem after problem but still has very good game film. He would be a top three pick if he wasn’t an idiot.

7. Oakland (5-11) - Michael Crabtree WR Texas Tech
The Raiders would love one of the top 3 OTs but with them being gone I would look for them to do one of 2 things, trade down to get a speedster like Darius Hayward-Bey or take Michael Crabtree here. Crabtree could be the next great receiver in this league and they shouldn’t have any problems selling seats in Oakland for the next few years.

8. Jacksonville (5-11) – Mark Sanchez QB USC
While I don’t think Jacksonville takes Sanchez at this pick, I do see them trading down and allowing another team to grab him here. It would surprise me if Sanchez falls below this pick. If Jacksonville keeps this pick I see DT BJ Raji going here.

9. Green Bay (6-10) – Malcolm Jenkins FS/CB Ohio State
Jenkin’s stock is sliding but he is still the top guy on my board at this position. The Packers secondary is getting old and Jenkins can play both the Safety and CB spots if necessary.

10. San Francisco (7-9) – Aaron Maybin DE/LB Penn State
I’m personally not as high on this guy as a lot of people but the numbers don’t lie. This guy is a legit pass rusher and a very versatile player and the 49ers need help at both the DE and LB position.

11. Buffalo (7-9) – Brandon Pettigrew TE Okl. St.
Since Buffalo snagged Philly’s other 1st rounder, they now have the option of getting the guy they wanted early and still shoring up their defense with the other pick. Pettigrew may drop to the 20s but I personally can’t drop a top 10 player that far.

12. Denver (8-8) – BJ Raji DT Boston College
Denver should thank their lucky stars that BJ Raji fell to them. I’m not very high on this guy but he’s the best guy at this position in a VERY weak DT class.

13. Washington (8-8) – Brian Cushing LB USC
Cushing is just a plain ol workhorse. This guy doesn’t take plays off and has one of the best motors out of any LB in this draft. Look for the 49ers to go heavy on defense in this draft.

14. New Orleans (8-8) – Chris “Beanie” Wells RB Ohio State
Since I’ve said from the beginning, Reggie Bush cannot carry a full load and with Duece McCallister gone the Saints need a 2 headed monster. Bush and Wells would make the most sense and this offense should shine this year again.

15. Houston (8-8) – Clay Matthews LB USC
The Texans are one or two guys away from being a contender in this league. With the offense looking better and better each year, the Texans know that the only way they get over the hump is on defense. Look for them to bolster the D in the first few rounds especially.

16. San Diego (8-8) – Rey Maualuga LB USC
What player first comes to mind when thinking about the Chargers in the 90s? Junior Seau. This is the next big LB from USC and the Chargers know how valuable Seau was for many years.

17. New York Jets (9-7) – Jeremy Maclin WR Missouri
The Jets need a WR badly. They upgraded their defense but shouldn’t wait until the 2nd round to grab their wide-out. They have got 2 options here: Maclin or Hakeem Nicks. Also, don’t be surprised if they trade up or down to get their guy. They are rumored to want a QB.

18. Denver Broncos (9-7) – Tyson Jackson DE LSU
This guy is a stud and will be a great pass rusher. He is a heavy riser and may not be here but if he is expect Denver to grab him. He’s athletic and very quick off the ball and can size up any OT.

19. Tampa Bay (9-7) – Josh Freeman QB Kansas State
I can see the Bucs going 2 ways with this pick. They could either grab RB Knowshon Moreno or go with a QB. With a new head coach I think its more likely that they draft a new QB and Josh Freeman is #3 on my list and the only other QB I would even consider in the first round.

20. Detroit - from Dallas (9-7) – Michael Oher OT Mississippi
After drafting the future in Matt Stafford, the Lions need to get some guys to protect him. Teams will be coming at him at all directions and this pick has to be a tackle. Oher is the 4th OT in the top 20 to go in this year’s draft. The Lions have upgraded their offense significantly in this first round. Time for defense from here on out!

21. Philadelphia (9-6-1) – Knowshon Moreno RB Georgia
Despite Andy Reid’s history of not drafting RBs in the first round, the Eagles can’t pass up on Moreno if he is still here at #21. Brian Westbrook needs a compliment guy or you can give him 2 or 3 more years tops.

22. Minnesota (10-6) – Darius Butler CB Connecticut
Vikings CB Antone Winfield’s contract expires next year and the Vikings need an impact guy in the secondary right now. The LB and DL positions are good but they could be great if the Vikings can find good players in the secondary in this draft.

23. New England (11-5) – James Laurinitis LB USC
Some experts seem to think Laurinitis will drop to the 2nd round after having a below average combine but I don’t see the Pats passing this guy up. All in all, Laurinitis is a football guy and Bellichek knows one when he sees one.

24. Atlanta (11-5) – Vontae Davis CB Illinois
Getting Davis here is a steal for the Falcons. These next 5 teams have huge holes at the CB position and we could very well see a trade with this pick. Otherwise this is a no-brainer for the dirty birds.

25. Miami (11-5) – Hakeem Nicks WR North Carolina
Nicks is a playmaker and a great hands catcher. Miami needs someone to compliment Ginn Jr. and with Chad Henne probably starting within the next few years, the Dolphins need more weapons in the receiving core.

26. Baltimore (11-5) – Darrius Hayward- Bey- WR Maryland
Baltimore has been in the hunt for a playmaker at WR. Rumors have swirled that they wanted Braylon Edwards, Torry Holt and Anquon Boldin. This tells me the Ravens are desperate for a speedster.

27. Indianapolis (12-4) – Peria Jerry DT Ole Miss
The Colts take a long hard look at a WR here to fill the void left by 11 year vet Marvin Harrison but elect to draft a more pressing need at DT. Jerry is the 2nd best DT in this draft and can fit the Colts 4-3 scheme well.

28. Buffalo Bills - Robert Ayers DE- Tennessee
Buffalo has a tremendous first round, unlike other years, and gets 2 immediate starters. Weve been saying it for years but this may be the year they break out. Oh yea, they got TO…..nevermind.

29. New York Giants (12-4) – Kenny Britt WR- Rutgers
The Giants need a WR and Percy Harvin and Britt are left for the 1st round. Britt can say ‘thank you” to Harvin for the xtra dough because the Giants would have grabbed Harvin until the failed test incident.

30. Tennessee (13-3) – DJ Moore CB Vanderbilt
This is most likely CB Nick Harper’s last year with the Titans and they need to fill a void when he is gone. Moore is a guy who can be groomed for a year and play the Nickel position as well. I would say they go with DT but they can get one in the late 2nd round.

31. Arizona (9-7) – Donald Brown RB - UCONN
I think Brown would be the perfect back for the Cardinals right now. He is a guy who can catch out of the backfield and will compliment Highsmith perfectly.

32. Pittsburgh (12-4) – Max Unger C Oregon
The Steelers don’t have any pressing needs so they will draft the best player that can help them in the future. The champs need to up the quality of their offensive line and Robinson is the best guard in the draft.

COACH K-4/24

Coming off a spectacular night overall cashing all 5 of our NBA plays and NHL play to go along with a 4-1-1 day in the MLB...we look to continue our assault on the books this evening. Boys, the NBA Playoffs are very simple...FADE THE PUBLIC! Yes, you will lose some like we already have but we will WIN MORE! Tonight's heaviest bet game by the squares is the Cavs -5.5 and rising. The biggest square play is a Cavs/Rockets teaser. While I don't know which team will lose outright, I almost guarantee one of them does. Just like last night the 2 largest square plays were the Lakers and over. Both went down in flames! In MLB it was the Cubs...loser. Today we have the public all over the Dodgers +$ at Colorado. This line makes no sense and reaks to high heavens. How could the Rocks be favored here?! Anyways, time is short and I gotta run so here is what we have on tap tonight. Good Luck!

ON THE CLOCK-DETROIT LIONS

By Mr. Thursday Night

With the 1st pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions select............

Coming off an embarassing 0-16 season, the Lions obviously have numerous holes to fill in the upcoming draft. The lone bright spot of the 2008 season was somehow landing a second 1st round pick for WR Roy Williams in a trade with Dallas.

In 2008, the Lions traded down and selected OT Gosder Cherilus of Boston College. Cherilus looks to be a solid pro for the next 10 years. In the 2nd round the Lions reached and took Colorado LB Jordon Dizon who will be out of the NFL within 4 years. In the 3rd round the Lions may have landed their RB of the future in Kevin Smith. Smith had a nice rookie year running behind a subpar offensive line.

The primary needs the Lions will address at #1 is either QB, LB or OT. Cherilus is a RT so Baylor LT Jason Smith would make sense. If the Lions go with a LB, it'll be Aaron Curry from Wake Forest. A LB core of Curry, Ernie Sims and newly acquired Julian Peterson would be a great start in improving a horrendous defense. In the end though I expect the Lions to go with Georgia QB Matthew Stafford. While Stafford is far from a sure thing like Peyton Manning was, the Lions need to find their signal caller of the future and other than Oklahoma QB Sam Bradford, the 2010 draft looks weak at QB. If Detroit does indeed take Stafford, look for them to grab the best avaliable LT with their 2nd first round pick (#20 overall).

This concludes HC&P's NFL draft preview. A special thanks to Dr. Donovan for composing the vast majority of these terrific write-ups. Enjoy the draft!

ON THE CLOCK-ST. LOUIS RAMS

Dr. Donovan

With the 2nd pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the St. Louis Rams select………

The St. Louis Rams are no stranger to a high draft pick. They’ve struggled on offense since being the greatest show on turf. Kurt Warner, Torry Holt, Isaac Bruce Marshall Faulk......just a plethora of offensive weapons. Fast forward to the present and let's see, they have a pretty good running back in Steven Jackson, an up and coming WR in Avery and a QB that can't stay healthy in Marc Bulger. Its pretty safe to say they are still rebuilding and half the reason Bulger can’t stay on the field is because of their brutal offensive line.

If Michael Crabtree didn’t have any questions surrounding him, I would actually think the Rams would take a look at him at #2, especially losing Terry Holt. That’s not going to happen though. The Rams have their eye on an offensive tackle and it looks to be Baylor’s Jason Smith.

The Rams would've taken OT Jake Long last year if the Dolphins hadn’t grabbed him at #1. They lost Orlando Pace and now they need to rebuild that line. Jason Smith is a better run blocker than Eugene Monroe and for that reason, Smith is the better pick here. Steve Spagnulo wants to focus his offense around Steven Jackson and the only way to do this is to grab one of these big uglys.

Look for the Rams to be back near the top of the draft next year to grab their future quarterback. They are a ways away from being a competitive team and I expect to see much of the same from them this coming year!

With the 1st pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Detroit Lions select………

ON THE CLOCK-KANSAS CITY CHIEFS

Dr. Donovan

With the 3rd pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select………

The Chiefs have had a wild off-season and seem to have improved the team already. The big move was Matt Cassell from the Pats coming over with Scott Pioli to Kansas City. They also got some wily vets from the Pats on defense as well.

The Chief’s draft last year was good but the verdict is still out on players such as DT Glenn Dorsey and CB Brandon Flowers and OT Brandon Albert. If they can fill some holes and find some steals, they could have a team to compete in an average division.

You can pencil in 2 names with Kansas City ’s #3 pick. LB Aaron Curry from Wake Forest has been the forgone conclusion in most experts mind. The Chiefs need major help at defense and you could plug this guy in and build around him right away. Some think he is the best player in this whole draft.

I also wouldn’t be surprised if the Chiefs go with OT Eugene Monroe from Virginia . After Kansas City acquired Cassell this off-season, Pioli wants to make dang sure his guy is protected. I like Monroe better than Smith but most experts seem to think that Jason Smith is a better prospect.

No matter who the Chiefs take out of these 2 players, they immediately fill a need. If they have another good draft this year the Chiefs could be one of the up and comers real soon.

With the 2nd pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the St. Louis Rams select………

ON THE CLOCK-SEATTLE SEAHAWKS

By Mr. Thursday Night

With the 4th pick in the NFL Draft, the Seattle Seahawks select........

The Seahawks come off an extremely disappointing 2008 season with many question marks all over the field. A 4-12 record has the Hawks picking higher than they have in many years. The 2008 campaigned was destroyed by injuries, in particular to QB Matt Hasselback. Seneca Wallace's play proved he is not a legit NFL starting QB and I look for Seattle to address that issue in the upcoming draft.

In 2008, the Seahawks took USC DE Lawrence Jackson at the end of round 1 who ended up making a moderate impact. In round 2, Seattle traded up and grabbed Notre Dame TE John Carlson who had a terrific rookie season and looks to be a future all-pro. The rest of Seattle's 08 selections had little to no impact on the 53 man roster.

Picking 4th overall puts the Seahwks in a good position to address one of their many holes. They could go defense where almost every position is in need of a playmaker, or try and plug the offensive line that sprung many leaks last season. Despite many other obvious needs, I expect Seattle to either trade out of this spot or take Mark Sanchez, QB USC. The Seahawks saw a preview of what life after Hasselback will be like last season and it wasn't pretty. I also think Seattle figures if they are spending huge dollars on a top 5 pick, it should be on a position that commands the top dollars. I personally am not sold on Sanchez being a good NFL QB but don't be surprised when Seattle calls his name #4 overall.

With the 3rd pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Kansas City Chiefs select.........

ON THE CLOCK-CLEVELAND BROWNS

Dr. Donovan

With the 5th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns select………

The Browns are building and re-building every year. Now they have Eric Mangini at the helm and he looks to rebuild once again. Their has been trade rumors swirling around that WR Braylon Edwards is being shopped. One thing I will say about Mangini is that he only wants high character guys on his team. He sent Kellen “I’m an F-in Soldier” Winslow packing the first chance he got.

The Browns have major needs all over the place but their defense is God awful. I remember watching them last year on Thursday night against the Steelers and I made the comment that they may have been the worst defense Ive ever seen. Look for the Browns to grab a pass-rushing defensive end like Texas’s Brian Orakpo. This guy is a physical speciman and can help this team immediately.

They also could use a defensive back but I don’t see any going this high in the draft. Malcolm Jenkins from Ohio State is the only one that may even sniff the top 10. Other rounds could be spent on a new tight end and bolstering up the defensive positions as well.

Mangini has a history of moving up or down to get his guy. Don’t be surprised if he trades down at #5 to package some other picks.

POWER RANKINGS-4/19

We're back with the update power rankings of our HC&P handicappers.

1. Mr. Thursday Night-The ring leader continues to march on with winner after winner. He sees a huge opportunity coming this week with the NHL playoffs.

2. Chicago Creepshow-This newcomer debuted this week with a 3 team parlay that would make your grandma cry. We look forward to future locks from the shadiest man in the Windy City.

3. Coach K-This numbers cruncher has seen a drop in his production lately but overall the money is still on the plus side. HC&P eagerly awaits the college football season when Coach K typically does the most damage.

4. Slapshot Bob-For a while there we were able to count on daily underdog winners from Robert but after a loss or two he disappeared. At this point Bob appears to be a one trick pony.

5. Pointspread Pete-About a month ago Pete was our 2nd ranked gamer. However he seems to have gone the way of Coach K and has gone into hiding. If this continues for another week or so we will have to sent a search team into the ghey bars of CF.

6. Cooby L-What the fuck can you say about this clown. The only thing worse than his name is his picks.

ON THE CLOCK-CINCINNATI BENGALS

Dr. Donovan

With the 6th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select………

The Bengals have been the laughing stock of the NFL since the beginning of time. Just when they look like they are going to break out, they end up having an average to below average season. I don’t think most people could even name a player on their defense at this point in time.

Choose a position and the Bengals could use an upgrade at it. The Bengals biggest needs are at offensive tackle, center and the linebacker postions. Since the center position is one they could fill in the 2nd round with a player like Max Unger from Oregon, look for the Bengals to fill in the OT position with the #6 pick.

Andre Smith from Bama has been an interesting character this off-season. Some think going #6 to the Bengals would be way to high considering his knucklehead ways and I agree. I still won’t put it past the Bengals to grab him. He is a talented player but he comes with way to much baggage. Most likely OTs Eugene Monroe and Jason Smith will be gone and Micheal Oher is #4 on most peoples OT list.

If the Bengals wise up and decide to skip over Andre Smith, look for them to grab a LB. They could go with someone like Brian Cushing from USC or Everette Brown from Florida. It is rumored that the Bengals like Penn State’s Aaron Maybin as well.

With the 5th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Cleveland Browns select………

ON THE CLOCK-OAKLAND RAIDERS

Dr. Donovan

With the 7th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Oakland Raiders select………

Al Davis’s Raiders are always and interesting one to watch come draft day. The lst couple years they have picked the big name guys but we may see them shock the world with this pick.

The Raiders need a playmaker at WR and the obvious choices are 2 specific guys, Crabtree or Maclin. Don’t be surprised if they REACH for a speedy Tim Brown prototype player in Darius Hayward-Bey either. What the F? Yea I know, my reaction too and for further embarrassment sake I hope they don’t, but just hold on to your hats for this pick just in case.

The Raiders other needs come at the offensive line position and defensive line. Free Safety is a question but they don’t have anyone besides Malcolm Jenkins from Ohio State who could fill that position this high in the draft.

If Eugene Monroe drops to #7, which he won’t, expect the Raiders to grab him. Other wise their choice is more likely going to be Andre Smith from Bama or Micheal Oher from Ole Miss.

On the defensive line, don’t be surprised if the Raiders go with the most athletic players, but biggest risks, on this board in Micheal Johnson from Georgia Tech. Way to high to draft this guy but once again its Al Davis. DT B.J. Raji may still be there as well and the Raiders run a 4-3 scheme, which Raji may thrive in.

This pick may be one that makes us all turn are head and immediately say “What the F”. That’s draft day drama served up Al Davis style my friends! With the 6th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Cincinnati Bengals select………

ON THE CLOCK-JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS

Dr. Donovan

With the 8th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select………

This pick makes me feel like a giddy little school boy just thinking about it. The #8 pick this year may be when the roller-coaster ride of the draft takes off. Many people think that the Jags have major interest in USC QB Mark Sanchez. I personally think this is a huge smoke screen to try and get teams to trade up to grab this guy. The scenario is set up perfectly. Both the Denver Broncos at #12 and the San Francisco 49ers at #10 have their eye on this guy. Who is willing to give up more? It doesn’t matter to the Jags because they would only move down a few spots while still grabbing their guy and future picks as well. If they do see stars in Sanchez’s eyes and grab him at #9, look for them to trade QB David Garrard to one of these teams anyway.

The Jags most pressing needs are at the Wide Receiver, Defensive end and running back. With Jones-Drew their guy and Fred Taylor no longer in Jacksonville, the Jags may look to get another guy who fits the 2-headed monster and compliments the human bowling ball. Don’t look for this to happen until rounds 2-4 however.

If Crabtree and Maclin are gone at this point, I see Jacksonville taking a long look at LSU’s Tyson Jackson or one of the USC LBs. Del Rio knows that USC puts out some stud LBs because, that’s right, he went there himself.

Look for Jacksonville to be aggressive in this year’s draft. I can see them moving up to get one of the top 2 WRs or moving down for someone who wants Sanchez. Oh boy, it’s X-Mas in April!

ON THE CLOCK-GREEN BAY PACKERS

Dr. Donovan

With the 9th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Green Bay Packers select………

The Packers performed as expected last year after losing their savior. QB Aaron Rogers stepped in and proved that he is an NFL starter but the defense just couldn’t cut it. The Packers have always had a decent D-line and need to get back to their roots.

Look for the Pack to grab DT BJ Raji from Boston College if he’s still there. He may come with some questions but he is the best DT at a very weak position in this year’s draft. They need someone to stuff the middle when facing RBs like “All-Day Peterson. This division is still considered a black and blue division and the running game is still their bread and butter. I am not to high on Raji and think they should look at some other needs first.

The Packers also have needs at the linebacker, defensive end and offensive tackle positions. With most of the top OTs gone already, I look for the Packers to grab another pass-rusher. They could look at someone like OLB Brian Cushing, LSUs DE Tyson Jackson or even Florida State’s Everette Brown. Some experts say they really like Ohio State’s S/CB Malcolm Jenkins but I think they have more pressing needs at this point.

With the 8th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Jacksonville Jaguars select………

MR. THURSDAY NIGHT-4/18

Today we focus on the Stanley Cup playoffs as there are 4 terrific games on tap today. All these picks will be moneylines. The first team listed will be the winner.

WASHINGTON CAPITALS VS NEW YORK RANGERS
DETROIT RED WINGS VS COLUMBUS BLUE JACKETS
CALGARY FLAMES VS CHICAGO BLACKHAWKS
BOSTON BRUINS VS MONTREAL CANADIANS

Pair them, parlay them, do what you'd like. Just know that 4 easy winners like this do not come along every Saturday. Book it!

ON THE CLOCK-SAN FRANCISCO 49ERS

Dr. Donovan

With the 10th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers select………

The 49ers seem to have new hope. Not only do they play in the worst division in football, new head coach Mike Singletary has this team ready to break out. The only problem is they don’t have a QB to lead this team yet. After former 1st pick and QB Alex Smith turned out to be a seeming less bust, do the 49ers take another chance on a first round QB?

We know the 49ers have tons of needs because of aging players and low-end performers. CB Walt Harris has been in the league for 14 years so the niners could look to replace him with this pick. . They also need to find a replacement for LB Takeo Spikes and get an OLB that can rush the QB. Last but not least, the question that all San Fran fans have is, can QB Shaun Hill take this team to the next level? Not even Mike Singletary seems to think so but he will prove his thoughts if he takes a future QB in the first couple rounds.

Look for the 49ers to look at QB Mark Sanchez if he’s still there at #10. The next in line would be Kansas State’s Josh Freeman but it’s doubtful he goes that high. If they can’t get their top two guys, look for them to wait until the next round to get one or just say sqrew it.

If they decide to go with a DB, they could possibly grab Malcolm Jenkins from Ohio State. OLB Brian Cushing or LB/DE Aaron Maybin would most likely be the guy they target if they go with defense. Look for them to take a long hard look at OT Andre Smith if he is still there also. I don’t think Singletary is worried about getting this kid motivated to play for him.

ON THE CLOCK-BUFFALO BILLS

Dr. Donovan

With the 11th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Buffalo Bills select………

The Bills came into the season last year with high hopes. In fact they started off on a tear winning their first 4 games but after that they were nowhere to be seen. They have a team seems to be headed in the right direction but then make a bone headed move. This year’s bone headed move is acquiring TO from the Cowboys. Yes, this brings firepower to their offense but also the negative media attention and the baggage that he brings to the locker room as well. Good luck to the Bills this season!

The Bills have had their eye on TE Brandon Pettigrew from Oklahoma State since the combine. They need another weapon in the offense and this guy can help their run game immensely as well. Look for the Bills to think about him at #11 but if they don’t take him, they may be looking to shore up their or defensive line or find a linebacker.

The Bills biggest need is at the DE position. Expect them to take a long hard look at DE Everette Brown from Florida State. They also have big interest in Brian Cushing from USC at the outside LB position.

Anyway you slice it, the Bills need major help on stopping the run and with the pass rush. They are in a good position and, although TE Brandon Pettigrew is a beast, the Bills should really think about getting the defense straightened out first. They can grab TE Cornelius Bennett from Florida or Jared Cook from South Carolina in the 2nd round.

With the 10th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the San Francisco 49ers select………

OOPS!

COACH K-4/16

Sorry I couldn't get back to you fellas yesterday with anything more than what was put up in the comments section. I've got a nice little parlay for this afternoon that should cash and just another way for us to extract some value without having to extend our risk. I'm going with the Cubs -112 and the Yankees -210 for a little parlay (our fade Cliff Lee play). Instead of playing both for 1 unit and risking 3 to win 2, I'm going to go ahead and risk 1 unit to win 1.79. I'm not going to get into the rest of the math here, but if you look at the #'s I'm sure you can figure out why we would use a parlay in this situation. I'll update in the comments section as I find out more. Good Luck!

MLB
1* Cubs -112 parlayed with Yankees -210 (+179), Giants/Dodgers over 9 (-105)

ON THE CLOCK-WASHINGTON REDSKINS

Dr. Donovan

With the 13th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins select………

The Redskins spent their off-season doing what they do best....spending money. If I was a fan of this team I would be stuck in a glass case of emotion. The Redskins do what every fan wishes their team would do every year in free-agency but then can’t perform during the season. It will be interesting to see Owner Daniel Snyder light up like a little boy on X-Mas morning when the un-capped year comes around.

The Redskins have a ton of talent on this team. Their offense is good enough to keep up with the likes of the Giants, Eagles and Cowboys but it will depend on the steady improvement of QB Jason Campbell. This year look for the Redskins to shore up the offensive line, defensive line and grab a couple linebackers.

My two top choices for the Redskins in the first round would be either LB/DE Aaron Maybin from Penn State or OT Micheal Oher from Ole Miss. I like the Redskins to look for a DE or a LB with this pick because their defense has been suspect the past few years. Maybin fits this mold because he is a versatile player who can be plugged into the DE or LB position. Also look for the Skins to look at LB Brian Cushing from USC.

If the Redskins are going to keep up with the rest of the NFC East, they need to continue to get young and fast on defense. Getting these high-priced stars that are virtually over-the-hill is not going to do the trick. It may put fans in the seats but so does winning. Daniel Snyder needs to get a clue and realize that what he’s doing is obviously not working. They have the talent and with a few more pieces, along with a consistent QB, the Redskins could be a surprise team in that division next year.

With the 12th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select………

COACH K-4/14

Well we come off a spectacular night nailing our 5* bomb and netting 18.9 units on the evening. Over the last 12 NBA plays we've cashed 11 of them for over 20 units. MLB seemed to get on track last night cashing 7 of our 8 bets for 7 units. Tonight we have a few plays but nothing that is presenting us with any major value. Hopefully the MLB will stay on track and we'll look to build this week and start to release some larger plays next week and the NBA playoffs start up on Saturday which is always $$ to my ears. Good Luck!

ON THE CLOCK-NEW ORLEANS SAINTS

By Dr. Donovan

With the 14th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the New Orleans Saints select………

The Saints are also one of those teams that seem to be a few players away from being great. Drew Brees had a steller year but the Saints defense was brutal. Reggie Bush has performed as expected but losing Duece McCallister could be harmful to his production.

I know the Saints need a lot of help at defense and drafting a secondary guy is vital somewhere in this draft. The #14 hole is an excellant spot to draft from. Unfortunately they gave up their 2nd and 3rd rounders to both New York teams for TE Shockey and LB Vilma.

Look for them to target Malcolm Jenkins from Ohio State and plug him immediately into the safety spot. They could also get one of the top OLBs and go with Brian Cushing or even Clay Matthews.

If they decide to go with offense, the Saints could use a counterpart for Reggie Bush. Chris Wells or Knowshown Moreno would be a good fit for this team. Wells especially since you have Bush who is your third down guy and can catch passes out of the backfield. I like them to go with a RB since they don't have picks in the next few rounds. They need an impact guy right now and Reggie Bush isnt one to carry a full load.

With the 12th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Washington Redskins select

COACH K-4/13

Hope everyone had a good Easter yesterday! We took the day off and look to get back to the grind again today. In the NBA we've nailed our last 6 bets in a row while being extremely selective but tonight I'm going to step out and drop a bomb! It's been awhile since I've found an edge this big in the NBA and honestly didn't see us making much more noise till the playoffs start but when the number came out last night I was surprised so I did my homework and everything checks out and points toward us cashing tonight! Bottom line is we are getting too many points b/c of the always overrated "must win" situation.

I'm going to continue to keep it small in MLB again for this week and see how things pan out. We're starting to get some #'s under our belt so things should start shaping up over the next week or so. Let's get em tonight! Good Luck!

MLB

ON THE CLOCK-HOUSTON TEXANS

On the Clock- Houston Texans

Dr. Donovan

With the 15th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans select………

The Texans are very close to being that next team that gets over the hump. They have a good offense, with last year's surprise RB Steve Slaton, and QB Matt Shaub has shown that he can be a starter in this league when healthy. This has to be the year that they take it to the next level and I see them getting a lot of defensive help through the draft.

I believe the Texans will go with an OLB with the #15 pick. USC LB Clay Matthews would fit in perfectly with this scheme. At his pro-day he showed that he can be a 3-down LB and is a very good coverage backer as well. Did I mention that he also has a certain uncle named Bruce Matthews that played 14 years for the Houston Oilers and is currently employed by the Texans?

If they don't go with a LB, I suspect they would go with a hybrid player such as DE/LB Everette Brown from Flor. State or Tyson Jackson from LSU. Don't be surprised if they target a RB in the mid to late rounds as well. Even though Steve Slaton is their guy, he could use another bruiser to carry 10-15 times a game.

ON THE CLOCK-SAN DIEGO CHARGERS

Dr. Donovan

With the 16th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the San Diego Chargers select………

The San Diego Super-Chargers had a down and up year last year. They were a huge diappointment at the beginning of the season but after turning it on for a play-off push, and other teams giving them a lot of help, the Chargers ended up making a push for the Superbowl.

The Chargers have one of the most talented teams in the NFL. They continuously get better every year through the draft but they can't seem to put enough together to get to the big dance. A lot of people think the Chargers could choose a RB for the future since Tomlinson is on the short side of his career but after resigning Tomlinson and having Sproles back, I see the Chargers deciding between 3 positions with the #16 pick.

They definitely need help at the OT and DE positions. Look for them to think about OT Micheal Oher from Ole Miss or DE Tyson Jackson, who also makes a lot of sense with this pick.

I personally see the Chargers going with LB Rey Maualuga from USC. He reminds me of another former Trojan that made waves in San Diego over the last decade. I think we all remember Junior Seau and, I'm not by any means saying Maualuga will be as good as Seau, but he seems to fit the mold. Fasten your seatbealts with this pick Charger fans!

With the 15th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Houston Texans select………

ON THE CLOCK-NEW YORK JETS

Dr. Donovan

With the 17th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the New York Jets select………After choking away a hopeful season, getting rid of Coach Mangini and the Brett Favre era lasting only one year, Jets fans are back to square one. Or are they? Bringing in defensive Guru Rex Ryan has proven to be the right move so far. He has shored up the defense by bringing in some of his former players from Baltimore, notably LB Bart Scott. He also went and got Lito Shepard at the CB position which was probably their biggest need on Defense.

Now, here in lies the question. Who is going to be the Jets QB? They have Kellen Clemons and Brett Ratliff but neither have much experience or have proven they can win games. Do this mean the Jets grab a QB with the #17 pick? Probably not. Ryan seems to be content letting these 2 duke it out in training camp and addressing other needs with this pick.

The biggest glaring hole on offense would be at the WR position. Jerrico Cotchery is a good WR but not a true #1. They also have other unproven no-namers at the position in Brad Smith, Chansi Stuckey and David Clowney. This would mean the Jets could use this 1st round pick to grab WR Jeremy Maclin, if still available, or Florida wide-out Percy Harvin. I wouldn't rule out Hakeem Nicks from North Carolina either.

If the Jets don't go with a WR at #17, look for them to fill a need on the defensive line. I like LSUs DE Tyson Jackson or Tenn DE Robert Ayers here as well.

Don't be surprised if the Jets move this first round pick. The last 2 years they have traded up or down in the draft to get the guy they want. Once they have a proven QB they may be one or 2 players away from being a contender. I hear the Rams are shopping the #2 spot. Crabtree in green anyone?

COACH K-4/11

We struggled again in MLB yesterday but I'm not discouraged one bit. There were some things that I saw where the results definitely supported our numbers/match ups but a few timely hits by the wrong team and a few AB's where we couldn't get the timely hit cost us. We did sweep the NBA though and finished the day up 3.68 units so overall a good day!!

For this afternoon there were 2 plays that I saw some value in but both the sharps and public have hit them pretty hard. Cliff Lee is an average pitcher at best and it seems like the wiseguys know this as well as most of the gambling public. Now, your everyday Joe is going to tell you he is a stud b/c of last year but trust me, I will rarely if ever bet on Lee this year and will pick my spots to fade him. The 2 plays I found were the Jays and the Reds/Pirates under. The Jays opened anywhere from plus $ to -104 and got pushed out to -130, while the under in our other game opened at 9.5 and landed at 8.5. The increase in the Jays ended up being roughly 23% higher which extracted most of our value. In the other game, I would have still played it at 9 but once we go under the #9, the %'s drop significantly. In fact, our %'s say that 10.6% of all MLB games will land on 9 and 54.9% land on 9 or go over. By taking under 8.5 instead of 9 we just cost ourselves almost an 11% chance of not losing our wager. While this game still might go under the 8.5, we are going to lose many more games over the season by taking under 8.5 than we are going over 8.5.

I'll be back with our MLB plays in just a bit as well as any NBA that I can find.

*UPDATE*

Here is what I have confirmed for now. I'll update in the comments thread as I find out more and if we'll upgrade our leans. Good Luck!

ON THE CLOCK-DENVER BRONCOS

On the Clock- Denver Broncos

Dr. Donovan With the 18th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select……… The Broncos have has an interesting offense. They fire their long time coach Mike Shanahan and get Josh McDaniel from the Pats, they try to trade for Matt Cassell and they end up losing their own Pro-Bowl QB in Jay Cutler to the Bears. Yes, the Broncos are definitely in a rebuilding stage and they have, holes-a-plenty, in the mile-high, Swiss-cheese defense. With Kyle Orton most likely to be the starting QB and Chris Simms being a serviceable back-up, I don't think they will go for a QB unless they really love Sanchez and he's even still there. The only reason I say this is because of Josh McDaniels history with USC QBs. The Pony's need to shore up their front 7 and badly. I am assuming they will switch to a 3-4 defense this year because of the Patriot background and the key to building a successful 3-4 starts with the DT. Remember, the Jets traded DT Dwayne Robertson last year to the Broncos because he wasn't good in the Mangini 3-4 system. Well here we go again. If BJ Raji falls to them, they will most likely grab him without question. I wouldn't totally rule out Ol' Miss DT Peria Jerry at one of there first round picks either, most likely at #18 though. The next step is to get some of those hybrid DE/LB types. Someone like Tennessee's DE Robert Ayers, LSUs DE Tyson Jackson or even Florida State's LB/DE Everette Brown. LB/DE Aaron Maybin from Penn State would fit in perfectly with the 3-4 scheme as well. Another position they may be interested in would be RB possibly. Beanie Wells or Knowshon Moreno may still be there at #12 and the Broncos need a legit starting RB. This will be an interesting draft for them. With the 17th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the New York Jets select………

HEY IGINLA

COACH K-4/9

Good Morning fellas. Today will begin the day that I start to officially keep track of my MLB plays. After a good start I feel that I am on the right track and can start to place some values toward my plays. For the next week or so every play will just be 1/2 unit or 1 unit with most just being 1/2 unit plays. It is early and we have another 6 months ahead of us for MLB so there is no need to start dropping bombs with minimal data. I will still continue to post my opinions on games and any other info I can pass along that may help. My opinion plays most likely will be my 1* plays in the future and my 0.5* and 1* plays will be equivalent to my 2* and above plays once we have more data to work with. I'll be back later with any NBA or other MLB games but for the early games....

MLB
0.5* Mets -120, Red Sox -150, Mets/Reds under 9.5 (-110), Rangers/Indians over 11 (+105)
Opinion- Tigers -108, Rangers -119, Tigers/Jays over 9.5 (-120)

COACH K-4/8

After the first couple of days in MLB my leans have gone 6-4-1 for +3.19 units (assuming you place the same amount on each wager). Today I have a lean on the Phillies -113 for this afternoon and will be back with a couple more for this evening as I confirm a few things as well as some NBA. Lines are extremely tough right now in the NBA, but I think there are a couple of spots to try and take advantage of.

ON THE CLOCK-TAMPA BAY BUCS

Dr. Donovan

With the 19th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select………

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers had a rough 2nd half of the year. They choked away the playoffs by a game and, because of this, they fired their coach Jon Gruden. This team has talent but needs some youth on defense.

The Bucs have had QB issues since the days of ol’ and Jeff Garcia is finally out of town (just signed with the Raiders). Tampa Bay is close to having a very good offense. WR Antonio Bryant came through last season and showed he could be a star in this league. They have a serviceable line and now a good TE in Kellen Winslow.

I can see Tampa Bay focusing on 2 positions on offense and 2 on defense. The first position is QB. Newly hired head coach, Raheem Morris actually used to be an assistant at Kansas State when QB Josh Freeman started as a true freshman. This could make for a very interesting pick at #19. I think Freeman going to the Bucs here is a reach but with a new regime usually comes new QBs and this coach has ties to Freeman.

I could also see the Bucs going after a RB. Even though they signed RB Derrick Ward and have a slew of banged up bruisers at the position, Ohio State’s Beanie Wells may still be available here and Knowshon Moreno definitely will be. I could see the Bucs picking up one of these guys as well.

The Bucs need youth on both the defensive line and at defensive tackle. I think DE/LB Larry English from Northern Illinois would fit well at this spot. If the Bucs go with a cornerback, because of an aging Barber, they could look at someone like Vontae Davis from Illinois or Darius Butler from UCONN.

With the 18th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select………

COACH K-4/6-PART 2

Fellas, I'm going to work into the MLB for a couple of weeks to get a better feel for things but I will pass along my opinions until then. For today I am leaning towards the Nationals +146, Mariners +125, Pirates +170, Padres -122, Astros -105 and the Rangers +115. Looks like the Rangers are a pretty popular play today so we'll see how that one turns out. Also liked a couple totals. Indians/Rangers under 10 and A's/Angels under 8.5. Remember, these are only just opinions for now.

On to the NCAA title game. We will be taking the Spartans +8 this evening. A fair amount of people will point out that the Tar Heels dominated this same Michigan St team already this year...on this same court. They are dead wrong. While the jerseys are the same and the setting is in the same spot; for starters...a pro Spartan crowd of around 65k will be in attendance this time around compared to 25k last time. Secondly, Michigan St was without Suton the first time around and we saw Marquis Gray get the start in his place. How many minutes has Gray been playing as of late? Oh about 4-5 minutes a game so far in the tourney. And finally we have Draymond Green who has been averaging about 20 mins a game as of late and only saw 6 minutes of action in the first go around. So to say this is the same Spartan team on the same court is ludicrous. This game will be tight the whole way. Both teams will go on their respective runs and look like they are the more dominant team, but with under 3 to go we will still see a 2 possession game. I see NC eeking out the victory and MSU's youth getting the best of them in the end but we'll stay under the 8 and finish off our NCAA year with a winner!

3* Sparty +8

With the 22nd pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings select……………

The Vikings have been a QB away from taking it to the next level for years now. They have had a good enough defense and running game to be considered an “above average team” but now its time for them to get that QB to put them in contention. Sage Rosenfels may not be that guy however. I don’t see the Vikings finding their guy in this year’s draft either.

The Vikings have 2 gaping holes this year and could use the #22 pick for either of these. I suspect they will choose the best player at the CB or OT position. They obviously have holes at other places as well (WR and C) but the positions I previously mentioned are “must-haves”, especially for a coach who’s on the hot seat like Brad Childress.

If OT Eben Britton from Arizona is still available, which is very likely, he would fit nicely for the Vikings at Right Tackle. Uconn’s OT William Beatty would also be a serviceable pick here as well. If they don’t see a guy they like at the OT position at #22, the Vikings will most likely look at a CB. One player that might be available for them would be Illinois CB Vontae Davis who has seen his draft stock rise and then fall this off-season. One guy that is rising steadily is CB Darius Butler, also from Uconn. This guy had a ridiculous pro-day and immediately turned some heads.

I feel the Vikings could have been more of a player in free-agency this off-season but we will have to see how the draft goes. This team is close, but is the window closing?

THE FINAL 4

By Mr. Thursday Night

The college basketball season winds down this weekend with the Final Four at Ford Field, home of your Detroit Lions. While I am not certain we will see an upset, I do think both games will be close and the dogs will be barking. MSU should get a boost from playing near their home campus and Nova looks like a team of destiny. Based strictly on talent, UNC and UConn should win both of these games by 6-10 points. However, the intangibles can not be overlooked when handicapping big games such as the two we have today.

VILLANOVA +7 VS NORTH CAROLINA
MICHIGAN STATE +4.5 VS UCONN

IT'S A FAVORITES FINAL 4

By: Cooby L

Well boyzzzzzzzzzzz, its the best weekend of the year and I have this weekends locks to make the weekend even better. UNC v Villanova - I think its pretty clear that North Carolina has distanced themselves from the rest of the field. I told you in a previous post that with a healthy Lawson, they would be unstoppable. Villanova has shown that they have the talent, the size and the experience to win it all, but they are running into a powerhouse tomorrow and their season will come to an end. Carolina will come out strong and go into half with around a double digit lead. Nova could make it interesting for a while but this one will end up a 14-18 point game. Expect a shoot out as well. I got Carolina winning this one 92-77. Take Carolina and the over.

Michigan St v Connecticut - Michigan St has made a run that has absolutely shocked me. I had them getting beat in round 2 by USC but this little run all comes to a halt tomorrow night. Don't fall into the whole "Michigan has been most affected by the economy and they are playing for the state" trap. Although I think it would be amazing to see and may bring a tear to my eye, this WILL NOT HAPPEN. UConn has too much talent and too much size for Michigan St. UConn wins 70 - 58. Take UConn and the under.

BEARS/CUTLER-THE PERFECT MARRIAGE

Not since Queen Elizabeth married Randy "Macho Man" Savage have we seen a match made in heaven like this. Jay "I've never won a damn thing" Cutler whinned his way out of Denver and landed in the Windy City, the home of the most wretched fans on planet Earth. I'd rather my team went 0-16 than to have this little bitch behind center for my favorite football team. Among things that I rank ahead of Jay Cutler are: gonorrhea, diarrhea and North Korea. So Bears fans, rejoice! Enjoy another mediocre season while continuing to shout "da Bears" and "Ditka" despite not having one WR who would start at Iowa State. OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh yeah, snap into a Slim Jim!!
