AFC EAST-DR. DONOVAN

Its about that time for teams to get to work. It's time for rookie hazings, two-a-days, blistering heat combined with horrific humidity and fights between offensive and defensive players. Its time for training camp. I will be previewing some things to watch in each conference and any big news that comes out of camp.

Lets start with the AFC East:

Buffalo Bills

Will the WR Terrell Owens experiment succeed? - Terrell Owens has always put up big numbers and is usually an asset to a team in the first year; but are Bills fans expecting too much from him? He did go to SB contenders in the Eagles and Cowboys and the Bills are no where near a contender. Can Owens' presence elevate the entirety of the offense, or will his dropped passes and pouting be the nail in Dick Jauron's coffin?

How large a role will RB Fred Jackson have in the backfield? - Marshawn Lynch remains the starter but is suspended to open the season, which will give Fred Jackson and newly acquired Dominic Rhodes a chance to show off their talents. With the coaches gushing over Jackson's work ethic and receiving ability, could he work his way into a full-fledged RB tandem

Miami Dolphins

Is RB Ronnie Brown healthy and ready to be the Wildcat? - Ronnie Brown lit the league up as the centerpiece of the Dolphins Wildcat formation, but it will be interesting to see if these shananigans will continue in the NFL. Can Brown finally live up to his immense talent and produce for a full 16-game season? Does Ricky Williams pose any threat to his playing time? Can rookie Pat White bring a new twist to the Wildcat?

What can QB Chad Pennington do for an encore? - Chad Pennington shocked the world last year with a Top 10 fantasy season, setting a career high for completions and yards. Can Pennington continue his Top 10 success?

New England Patriots

Is QB Tom Brady back? - This is one of the biggest questions facing NFL fans for obvious reasons. If Brady is 100% healthy, which reports say he will be the Pats could will be the team to beat. If not, well, we all know I can't get that lucky 2 years in a row.

Who is the starting HB? - Bill Belichick isn't one to disclose anything he doesn't have to, which means training camp may not give us much insight into the team's intentions at running back. That said, the Patriots offense has been using a number of RBs over the last few years. Will Fred Taylor be given a chance to play the role of Corey Dillon? Will Laurence Maroney, now allegedly healthy, surprise everyone by reclaiming the main role? What about Kevin Faulk, who quietly catches a ton of passes in 3rd down formations each and every year?

New York Jets

Can Rex Ryan and Mike Pettine implement the Ravens schemes in NY? - Ryan and DC Pettine are bringing the blitz-happy 3-4 system from Baltimore to New York, and also brought along SS Jim Leonhard, DE Marques Douglas and ILB Bart Scott to begin the makeover.

Will QB Dirty Sanchez win the job? - Sanchez is being paid to be the team's future franchise passer, but that doesn't mean they'll hand him the job. Kellen Clemens has as good a chance to start in 2009, and this will be THE camp battle to watch.

Let the games begin!

Gentlemen, I want to apologize for not showing up last night but I had a family emergency and that clearly takes precedence over anything else. Tonight I have 3 wonderful BOMBS to drop that I have received some really good info on. Word is the 5* might jump to 9.5, and if it does I suggest to take it back down to a 3* play. We've got quite a few units in play tonight and I'm looking for a big evening! Again, sorry for last night guys. We'll make it up tonight!

#2-DREW TATE

We've entered the top 2 in our countdown and we find QB Drew Tate. In high school, Tate set many Texas passing records and did not redshit his first fall in Iowa City during the 2003 season. Backing up Nathan Chandler, he saw very little action.

2004 was the season that the legend of Drew Tate began. With the top 4 running backs injured, Iowa turned to their sophmore QB to carry the offense. Tate led the Hawks to a 10 win season, was named first team All-Big Ten and Big Ten offensive player of the year. The final pass of Tate's sophmore season will forever be the most famous throw in Iowa football history when he found Warren Hollway for a 65 yard touchdown pass as time expired to defeat LSU in the Capital One Bowl.

Tate's junior and senior seasons were derailed by injuries and a group of thugs from Detroit that ruined team chemistry. He finished his career second in most major Iowa passing catagories behind Chuck Long. Tate will forever be remembered for his incredible scrambling ability and strong desire to win.

Let's make it 9/10 and look for our 4th winning day in a row. The board is another tough one, so rather than press we'll keep it light and look to drop some bombs later this week. Good Luck!!

#3-BOB SANDERS

#3 on our list of great Hawkeyes since 1990 is Bob Sanders, who debuted in the black and gold in 2001 as a freshman. During the first half of the season, Sanders made his impact on special teams before finally getting the starting nod against Wisconsin and recording 12 tackles.

In 2002 and 2003, Sanders led 10+ win Iowa teams with his violent hits and ability to stuff the run. As a junior, Bob Sanders was named First-Team All-Big Ten and a Fourth-Team All-American.

Sanders was hampered early in his senior season by a foot injury. He returned to score his first career touchdown against Illinois on a fumble return. In his final home game against Minnesota, Sanders recorded 16 tackles and forced three fumbles as he was named the Big Ten defensive player of the week. Again Sanders earned First-Team All-Big Ten honors and was Second-Team All-America.

The Colts selected Bob in the 2nd round of the NFL draft and Iowa fans across the coutry knew what a steal he would prove to be. Already in his young career Sanders has been to multiple Pro Bowls and was named the 2007 NFL Defensive MVP.

The argument can be made that the day the Iowa football program turned around was the day Bob Sanders stepped foot in Iowa City.

COACH K-7/19

Cashed our 5* BOMB yesterday!! Let's keep adding to our bank roll today with a few more plays and end another week in the black. I don't really like the board today so we are going to keep it fairly light on the units today. Good Luck!!

#4-DALLAS CLARK

Continuing our countdown of the greatest Iowa Hawkeye football players since 1990, #4 brings us to Dallas Clark.

Clark arrived on campus in 1998 as walk-on linebacker recruit from Livermore, IA. He didn't see the field until 2000, primarily on special teams. Before the 2001 season the Iowa coaching staff decided to switch Clark to TE and the rest as they say is history.

After a successful 2001 season which earned Clark honorable mention All-Big Ten honors, Clark was awarded a scholarship. In 2002, Clark made his case for being the greatest tight end in Iowa history. He earned spots on both the 1st team All-Big Ten squad and All-America team along with winning the Mackey award given to the nations top tight end. Clark will be best remembered for his performance in a comeback victory against Purude in which he had a 95 yard TD catch and the game winning catch with 1 minute left. Although he had one year left of eligibility, Clark decided to skip his senior year and enter the NFL draft.

With the 24th pick in the 2003 NFL draft the Indianapolis Colts selected Dallas Clark. During his time in the NFL, Clark has already won a Super Bowl and been named to the Pro Bowl. Last season he broke John Mackey's record for receiving yards in a season for Colts tight ends. Dallas Clark was one of the key components in Iowa's magical 2002 season and in getting the program back on track.

COACH K-7/11

Well we split our 3* bombs yesterday and did not fair too well all around as our 5 day winning streak came to an end. We are still up over 7 units this week and with a situation I've been eying since early this week upon us, I feel we really need to keep the pressure on the book. I realize the BOMBS haven't been able to cash like we would have expected them to the past week or so, but like I said before; we are still up over 7 units this week so I'm going to let our first 5* BOMB of July fly!! Some would consider this chasing after last night, but trust me this is far from a chase. The easy thing to do would be to sit back and take our 7 units, make a few small plays today and head into the All-Star break winning 6 weeks in a row. Now if we were down units heading into today and I threw this 5* BOMB at you, by all means I would be skeptical. But we are up enough units that we can afford to treat this play like it's worth....and that is a FULL 5*, or 5% of your bank roll.

Sorry for the delay fellas, got caught up with some personal stuff that needed my attention. Here is the final card. It's a big one with well over 20 units in play for the evening. If you don't have the bank roll to play along, lower your betting amount or just play on the few you agree with. As for our 5*, living here in Denver and knowing these Rockies and also knowing that Jurrjens has started to slip a bit recently I was just hoping the line wasn't 11. When I saw we were under that key # and well under it there's only 1 thing I could do....LET'S GO!!! Good Luck!!

MLB
5* Rockies/Braves over 9.5 (-110)
3* Pirates/Phils over 9 (-110)
2* Braves +105, Mariners -112, Twins -112, Astros/Nationals under 9.5 (-115), BoSox/Royals over 9 (-110), Jays/O's under 9.5 (-110), Twins/WSox over 9 (-110)

COACH K-7/10

Thanks to the DBags bullpen, and a blown 7-0 lead we were unable to sweep the evening board. However, we have ran our current winning streak to 5 days in a row and now sit at 22-17 +7.05 units for July. This is truly grinding at it's best fellas. Even though we have had some bad beats and really big bombs miss their mark, we are still able to grind out a profit each night. And when the tides turn and we do start to cash our bombs, oh and we will, we are going to have a HUGE run! I'm hoping that run starts tonight with our 2 NL West 3* BOMBS! Here's to 6 straight...Good Luck!!

MLB

#5-NICK BELL

We've now entered the top 5 in our countdown of the greatest Iowa Hawkeye football players since 1990. Checking in at number 5 on our list is former Hawkeye running back, Nick Bell aka the 6'5", 250 pound monster from Las Vegas, Nevada.

While Bell arrvied on campus in the 80s, he made his biggest impact during the 1990 Rose Bowl season. Despite splitting time with Tony Stewart, Bell rushed for over 1000 yards, was named first team All-Big Ten, a Doak Walker finalist and Co-Big Ten Offensive player of the year. For good measure, Bell added over 300 yards receiving and 12 touchdowns.

In Iowa's biggest win of the season (at #4 Illinois, 54-28), Bell ran for 168 yards and two touchdowns. During the Rose Bowl loss against Washington Bell had over 130 yards of total offense including a 66 yard catch during a frantic comeback that saw the Hawks pull within a score of the Huskies.

Bell would go on to be a second round pick of the Oakland Raiders however injuries never allowed his pro career to get on track. Bell will forever be a Hawkeye fan favorite for his running style and contributions during the last Rose Bowl season for Iowa.
