THE TOUGH LOSSES CAN’T CONTINUE FOREVER
Last Thursday was a rough night for us. 2 missed free throws by Nored for Butler and then a dumb foul in the last 30 seconds. Result……a push. Then, on the last play of the game, a meaningless touchdown by the Colts. So, instead of a 4-1 night, we end up seeing a 2-2 night. The bad luck can’t continue forever.
So, on this day that the Big Ten screwed everything up, LDDD is going to get everything right. I do have a feeling that the Big Ten looked at my life in order to get their division names. I am quickly becoming the leader on HC&P and it’s only a matter of time before the leadership makes me a legend.
NFL
Ravens/Texans under 46 – Ravens know that the Texans only way to win is to air things out so they are going to punish them on the ground. This means the clock is going to run and run. This will be close but take the under.
NBA
Grizzlies -3 ½ vs. Trail Blazers – Blazers are sliding, Grizzlies getting better and better. Winning games at home and playing teams tough on the road. This is a very under-rated team. Griz by 5-7.
Warriors/Jazz over 208 – Warriors are consistently giving up 100 points every game. Jazz play ok defense. This one won’t be a no brainer but should be in the 215 range when it’s all said and done.
Bulls -8 vs. Pacers – Pacers have been good at home but been getting blown out on the road. The same will happen tonight. D Rose continues his rise to fame with 30+ tonight.
Bucks +7 ½ @ Mavs – The Mavs win streak is in jeopardy tonight. The Bucks record doesn’t show it, but they are a solid team and their youth will give the Mavs fits tonight. This one comes down to the final possession.

LDDD
It hasn’t been good lately for LDDD but not good for LDDD still equals WINNERS! Tonight I am very confident in a few games:
NBA
Celtics -5 ½ @ Philly – ride one of the hottest teams in the NBA until they tell us different
Mavs/Nets over 188 – Nets have lost 5 in a row and doing it due to lack of defense. I wouldn’t be surprised if the Mavs get to 120.
NFL
Colts -4 @ Titans – this one is going to be a laugher. Colts bounce back, Peyton bounces back, Titans continue their downward spiral.
NCAA
Butler +2 @ Xavier – Xavier struggled with Iowa, Iowa is one of the worst teams in the country. This one will be fairly close but Butler will pull it out with late free throws.
Temple +2 vs. Georgetown – 5 in a row on the road for Temple. They have already showed they can hang and beat some solid teams on the road. They are going to come out firing with a hostile crowd and hold off a tough Georgetown team in the end.

LPL/MTN CHALLENGE
After 10 weeks and 50 games, the Mr. Thursday Night versus Led Pipe Larry Challenge has improbably ended in a tie. To break the tie, each handicapper will select their 5 locks of the bowl season to decide once and for all who is the king of college football. Led Pipe Larry was able to force the playoff by correctly selecting Hawaii to poleaxe an awful UNLV squad. The winner will be awarded free entry into Led Pipe Larry's fantasy basketball league of which Jason Richardson is currently the 13th ranked player.
Editors note: Mr. Thursday Night destroyed Coach K in last seasons bowl challenge. Coach K could not be reached for comment.

YOU WILL BE MISSED-LDDD
Today marks a sad day in the sporting world with the passing of the great Ron Santo. I was not able to see Ron as a player but have enjoyed him for years now as a color commentator on WGN radio. Being a huge Cubs fan, you can only imagine how depressing my summers have been over the 20+ years have been. The only thing that got me through one painful loss after another, was listening to Mr. Santo screaming from the booth at the poor play of his beloved Cubs. I have a feeling you will finally get into the Hall of Fame and it is a shame that your passing will be the main reason why. You should have been inducted years ago.
In honor of the late, great #10, I have 10 solid plays for the next 3 days. Good luck this weekend.

LED PIPE.........LINGIE?
With Led Pipe Larry’s continued struggles, I hope you all took my advice and jumped off that sinking ship. After a 1-4 performance this weekend, I hope we have learned something. LDDD’s “down” weekend consists of a 5-4 performance, which is still a winner!
LDDD rebounded last night with a 4-1 performance, the one loss being a tough one with the Iowa Hawkeyes losing on a 30 footer. Not much that jumps out at me in the NBA but I do have a couple likes. Lots of likes in the college game:

LIQUID HOT MAGMA
Another solid night boyzzzzzz. 4-2, making us 7-3 since the return of LDDD. I had 2 other likes that I didn’t play but since I am hotter than “The Woman,” we gotta roll with them all.
So, today I am holding nothing back.
NBA
Dallas Mavs -9 vs. Detroit Pistons – see reasoning in Hornets game last night but expect different results tonight. Detroit is BAAAAAADDDDDDDD.
LA Lakers -8 vs. Chicago Bulls – Bulls have played at Houston, San Antonio and Dallas and now head into LA, all within the last week. They will hang for a while but the Lakers will break it open at the end of the 3rd.
NY Knicks/Charlotte Bobcats Over 205 – the Knicks have allowed 100+ in all but 1 game this year. Bobcats don’t light it up but will tonight against the worst d in the league.

COME ON RIDE THE TRAIN
Friday night treated us well with a 3-1 record, even with Kevin Durant missing the game against Boston! I am sorry I didn’t get on here to provide winners over the weekend but I am here to help you tonight:
NBA BASKETBALL
New Orleans Hornets -5 ½ @ LA Clippers – The Clippers are the worst team in the league, the Hornets, one of the best. Hornets win big.
Utah Jazz -10 ½ vs. Sacramento Kings – not only are the Kings bad, but they also played yesterday. The Jazz are playing very well and will be up big at half and cruise to a big victory.
San Antonio Spurs -3 ½ vs. Orlando Magic – All the Spurs do is win. This one will be close but the Spurs will prevail by 6-8 points.
Denver Nuggets/Golden St. Warriors Over 218 – I love all overs when the Warriors are playing……especially when Denver is the opponent.
NCAA BASKETBALL
Kansas St -5 ½ vs. Gonzaga – Kansas St is one of the best teams in the country. Gonzaga is solid but can’t hang with K St’s athleticism.
San Diego St -10 ½ @ Miami (OH) – big line on the road you might say? Doesn’t matter in this laugher.

LPL VS MTN UPDATE
THE RETURN OF A LEGEND
I would like to first off apologize to all for my 1 year hiatus. I had the pleasure of becoming a parent for the first time a little over a year ago and took some time off. But I am back now and ready to help you amateurs with nothing but winners.
Tonight:
Oklahoma City Thunder +6 ½ @ Boston Celtics – OKC matches up well and no one on Boston can guard Durant. I see OKC winning this game by 3.
Miami Heat -11 ½ vs. Charlotte Bobcats – Miami has struggled against top tier teams so far this season but have played extremely well vs. average teams. Vegas sets these lines high knowing the general public will take the dog. Don’t fall into this trap. Heat win by 20+.
LA Lakers vs. Minnesota T’wolves – the Lakers are the best team in the league. The T’wolves, one of the worst. Once again a big line draws you into taking the home dog. Lakers roll.
Knicks/Warriors over 221 ½ - neither team plays defense. These 2 teams just played a little over a week ago and combined for 239 points. Expect the same.
For those of you riding Led Pipe Larry, you better jump off that sinking ship and onto the LDDD rocket. That bozo hasn’t picked a winner since ‘Nam. You can all thank me later.
I leave you all with the words of the great Limestone Kush: “I don’t get high, boy I gets lifted.”

LED PIPE LARRY LOOKS TO REBOUND
Two weeks ago, I, Led Pipe Larry, let you scumbags get a little peak behind the curtain to see how a genius mind works. I was rewarded for my efforts with eternal consciousness, and a solid 4-1 week. Last week i failed to adequately explain my selections, and i was struck down by karma and some really bad handicapping. Never one to tussle with higher power, I give to you -- with explanations -- this week's winners (public figures courtesy of www.pre-game.com):
Indiana +10 vs. PENN ST: Coming off a 63 point loss, Indiana's likely goal against Penn St is to keep things within the half century mark. The defense, which gave up roughly a touchdown every 3 minutes it was on the field, is so banged up that it has been reported that Damon Bailey has returned to Bloomington to take a few snaps at strong safety. In 13 meetings with the Nitany Lions, Indiana has ZERO wins. 86% of the public sees an ever improving Penn St. blowing out the fighting Bobby Knights. But as a loyal Calbert Cheney fan, I'M TAKING THE HOOSIERS!
WE'RE GETTING A VAN -- me! Joe Buck! Evan Bayh! Kevin Kline! Donald Fehr! Mark Cuban !-- we're driving to D.C., er, suburban Maryland -- Cuban's bringing the beer -- AND WE'RE GOING TO GET RICH! HOOOOOOOSIERS!
Connecticut +4 vs. SYRACUSE: You probably haven't thought about Connecticut since they embarrassed the entire Big East conference by opening the season with a 10-30 shallacking at the hands of Rich Rodriguez. You probably also didn't notice that they lost by two touchdowns to Temple, and were blanketed 26-doughnut by Louisville. Surely you didn't know that they haven't won a single game on the road all season. So it's basically guaranteed that you're joining 66% of the public and taking a resurgent Syracuse team at home against the Huskies. Me, I'm taking UCONN PLUS THE FOUR POINTS PLUS JAKE VOSKUHL'S HAIR! Huskie nation has not been this excited since Meg Ryan debuted in Midsummer Night's Dream and Moby was rocking the Gampel Pavilion. OWWWwwwwwwwwwwww (sound Huskie makes)!
KANSAS +24 vs. Oklahoma St.: In a season in which the Jayhawks have lost 7-55 to Baylor, 7-59 to Kansas State and 10-45 to Texas A&M, losing only 3-6 to North Dakota State actually might be one of Kansas' top three accomplishments. Hey, they kept it close! But keeping it close won't really be an option when OSU comes to town. The Cowboys, which lead the nation in total offense, have posted impressive wins this season over Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Kansas State, Baylor and Texas. 86% of the betting public agree that Oklahoma St. will roll. LPL is laying a big fat one on KANSAS PLUS 24. The Grenada and Bottleneck will be a rockin' down on Massachusetts St. Even Bob Dole will be smoking Camel menthols and drinkin' Boulevard, as this one will be a shocker.
NORTH CAROLINA -3 vs. North Carolina St.: Butch Davis ranks just behind Barry Bonds, Tiger Woods, and Tony Parker in our official HC&P Cheater Power Rankings (hear that Clinton, you're now down to #5 buddy!). Meanwhile, his cross state rival the N.C. State Wolfpack, have got things done the right way this season with big wins over Florida State, Georgia Tech, Boston College, and Cincinnati. America hates cheaters, and loves Russel Wilson -- 68% of the pubic is on the Wolfpack. LPL LOVES CHEATERS -- IF THEY'RE WINNERS -- I'M ALL OVER THE TARHEELS -3. Aint no party like an Old Well party. MAKE PETER GAMMONS PROUD CHAPEL HILL!
OREGON ST. +3 vs. USC: Oregon St. got beat by 17 points against Washington State last weekend. Do you know bad you have to be to get beat by 17 POINTS AT WASHINGTON STATE? In comes America's team led by my favorite coach, Lane Kiffin. Washington St. doesn't have a chance says 85% of the American public. Hate to do this to you Lane, but i'm going with the Beavers +3! This one's for Brent Berry!
Until next week,

MTN'S THURSDAY NIGHT LOCK
We got ourselves an easy one tonight boyz. Expect a typical Big East game in the late fall that’s physical, low-scoring, and competitive into the final quarter. Pitt enters the game as the lone undefeated team in conference play. Dion Lewis is finally healthy and QB Tino Sunseri continues to develop at a rapid pace. Uconn can not throw the ball and Pitt's run defense is ranked in the top 10 in the country. Unless Ray Allen shows up sometime soon, I just do not see the Huskies scoring enough points to cover this number.

A HUMBLED LPL CHECKS IN
And here I sit, discouraged and beaten, in a dark hole called failure. Four short weeks ago, Mr. Thursday Night and I began a battle of will and intellect, pride and pocket book. Fresh off an impressive three week stretch, I assumed the competition would be no more than a memorialization of my successful endeavour into the handicapping realm and a way to make a few extra dollars. But a recent run has left me 11-14 and looking for answers. A man is nothing without his principles. So it's time to return to my principles and start picking games, once again, as a contrarian.
With that introduction, I give you the following winners (home teams in all caps and public betting statistics courtesy of www.pre-game.com):
1. DUKE +1 vs Virginia: The much improved Cavaliers are fresh off a 24-19 drubbing of the Miami Hurricanes. Virginia, which also took USC down to the wire earlier this season, is led by defensive guru Mike London. Duke, on the other hand, has struggled all season long, especially on the defensive side of the ball where it has given up 44 points to Virginia Tech, 62 points to Alabama, and 54 points to Wake Forest (WAKE FREAKIN' FOREST!). General consensus and 90% of the wagering public agree that UVA will roll. But not ol' LPL, WE'RE TAKING THE BLUE DEVILS +1.
2. Louisville +6 vs SYRACUSE: Under new coach Dough Marrone, Syracuse has become a Big East power notching impressive wins over South Florida, West Virginia, and Cincinnati. Louisville, on the other hand, has been a mild disappointment this season. Last week, not only did they get steamrolled by flying mustaches of Pittsburgh, the Cardinals also lost running back Bilal Powell. With Victor Anderson sucking wind in the trainers office, Louisville will be forced to turn to redshirt freshman Jeremy Wright to carry the ball. General consensus and 80% of the wagering public agree that this one won't be pretty and is all over Syracuse. MORONS, ALL OF THEM, GIVE ME THE CARDINALS +6.
3. TULANE +10 vs Southern Miss: A traditional Conference USA power, Southern Miss looks to become bowl eligible for the 8th straight season. The Golden Eagle high powered office has put up 43, 41, and 49 points in its last three outings. The Green wave, on the other hand, prefers to giving up lots of points rather than scoring them, as they have surrendered 52 to Tulsa, 41 to Army, and 42 to Houston. 88% of the betting public agrees that Southern Miss will be taking Tulane behind the shed....HOWEVER, WE'RE LOADING UP ON TULANE +10. SHAUN KING! TOMMY BOWDEN! BOURBON STREET!
4. KANSAS ST. +4 vs. Texas: Although Texas has hit a few rough patches this season, the Longhorns have put together impressive wins over Nebraska and Texas Tech and took Oklahoma down to the wire. Kansas St., on the other hand, got blown at by 35 by Nebraska, gave up 47 points to freakin' Baylor, and has lost three out of its last four. 76% of the voting public and Tim Riggins agree that you don't eff with the Longhorns. I'M GOING WITH THE WILDCATS +4. WAKE UP AGGIEVILLE! SHOTS OF JACK D ON ME!
5. UCLA +5 vs. Oregon St.: Oregon St. has been impressive in Pac 10 play with wins against Arizona St, California, and Arizona. The Bruins, on the other hand, lost 0-35 to Stanford, 7-35 to California, and were absolutely embarrassed by Oregon 13-60. No reason you shouldn't join 92% of the betting public and take Oregon St. I'M ROLLING WITH THE BRUINS +5. WAKE UP BOB TOLEDO, THIS IS GOING TO BE AN OFFENSIVE EXPLOSION.
Until next week, LPL.

POWER RANKINGS
A major shake-up in the power rankings this Monday after #1 goes down for the 3rd straight weekend. TCU, Michigan State and Missouri are all frauds and 2 of the 3 will lose this weekend. Also look for Oregon to be on upset alert at USC this weekend. I refuse to believe Auburn is the 3rd best team in the country however at this point, their resume is impressive. Iowa remains in the top ten despite having two losses however the Hawkeyes will rebound on Saturday with a victory over Michigan State. Wisconsin will finish the season 11-1 and likely face Oregon in an interesting Rose Bowl matchup.

MR. THURSDAY NIGHT
Well fellow degenerates it's once again Thursday already which means Mr. Thursday Night is ready to put a cap in yo ass with another sure fire winner. This week sees the UCLA Bruins traveling to Eugene to take on the newly crowned #1 Oregon Ducks. This line opened around 21.5 and has rose all the way up to 25 as of press time. The past three games between the teams at Autzen have been decided by 10 points or less. In 2007, the Bruins registered a 16-0 shutout in the first game after QB Dennis Dixon suffered a torn ACL against Arizona. Then, backup QB Brady Leaf was knocked out of the UCLA game. The Ducks had risen to No. 2 in the BCS Standings prior to the Arizona loss. Rain is also in the forecast for the ballgame so we are going to go ahead and take the points.
