THE KING IS CROWNED
In a game which lived up to all the pregame hype, the top seeded LSU Tigers (Adam) defeated the fiesty Boise State Broncos (Dan), 20-13 to claim the Lindgren Cup 4 Championship. LSU looked strong from the start, settling for a 3-0 lead after an impressive goalline stand by the Broncos. Midway through the second quarter, LSU struck on a 55 yard touchdown pass from Jordan Jefferson to Rueben Randall to extend their lead to 10 points. At the end of the first half, once again inside the 5 yard line, the Tigers hit the upright on a chipshot field goal and the score remained 10-0 as Limestone Kush took the field for the halftime show.
Boise took the ball first in the second and wasted no time getting on the board, knocking home a 37 yard field goal to cut the deficit to 10-3. After a Jefferson interception, Boise added another field goal to inch closer, 10-6. Midway through the 4th quarter LSU put together an impressive march which once again stalled inside the Boise 10 yard line, leading to another field goal and a 13-6 lead. Kellen Moore then went to work with his season and career on the line, leading Boise State down the field for a tying touchdown with 1:30 left. Many LSU fans feared Petersen would roll the dice and go for two but he opted to tie the game at 13. With 1:30 left and full compliment of timeouts, LSU started their drive from the Boise 15 after a questionable holding penalty and pounded the ball on the ground with 4 carries getting the Tigers to midfield. While still in hurry-up mode, Jefferson threw yet another impressive deep ball, connecting with Russell Shepherd on a 49 yard touchdown strike to regain the lead 20-13 with 35 seconds left. Boise took over deep in their own territory and their championship hopes quickly faded as Moore was picked off and LSU took over. After two running plays, game MVP Jordan Jefferson took a knee and LSU was crowned the champions of the greatest Lindgren Cup compeitition of the 21st Century.
