#10-Indiana Hooisers

Indiana is no longer a basketball school. Unfortunately, it has never been a football school either. QB Ben Chappel returns to give the crimson and cream hope as does a weak early season schedule. If Indiana can defeat Michigan at home, they will likely start 5-1. After that however the road gets much tougher. The Hoosiers play Ohio State, Iowa, Penn State and Wisconsin this year. Look for 2 or at most, 3 conference wins for Indiana this fall.

#11 Minnesota Golden Gophers

Desperation is a stinky cologne and the Gophers once again reek. Adam Weber returns but he will have little help. There is an exception this season to Minnesota's annual weak preconference schedule...........a visit from USC in week 3. With Indiana not on the schedule, I would not expect more than 1 conference victory from this group.

2010 Big Ten Preview

Hello again loyal degenerates, after a several month hiatus, we are back and ready to fund your next shopping spree with stone cold, lead pipe locks.

We'll start the fall with our Big 10 season preview the next 5 days. If you will recall last season, our Big 10 preview/predictions were spot on other than the fact that we for some unknown reason thought Ron Zook was a competent coach. As of press time, we have no idea where Coach K is and Slap Shot Bob is currently holding out for a new contract. Apparently he thinks picking 39% winners warrants a raise. Stay tuned, the madness begins Thursday.

The Caps have now won an outrageous 14 in a row after defeating Pittsburgh in what was the best regular season NHL game I have ever seen. The Caps have 3 tough road games this week before the Olympic Break......if they win all 3 they will tie the NHL record of 17 consecutive wins held by the Pittsburgh Penguins.

YOU PLAY TO WIN THE GAME

THE PRODICAL SON RETURNS!!

We are proud to announce Coach K has been signed to a 1 year, incentive based contract with HC&P! Here is his entry today:

NFL
5* Saints -3 (bought 1/2)
3* Jets +9
2* Saints/Vikes under 54
2* Saints +200 to win the Super Bowl

Well fellas, we've got ourselves 3 games left in the NFL and I plan on taking home all 3! Let's get right to it...WHO DAT WHO DAT WHO DAT GONNA BEAT DEM SAINTS?! Nobody! Not Brett Favre. Not Peyton Manning. Don't be surprised to see the Jets take out Manning today.

Without giving you every stat in the book that anyone can look up for themselves I'll give you the very simple and easy reasons why the Saints not only destroy the Vikes today, but win the Super Bowl. First off, home field advantage. The Vikes are 4-4 on the road this year losing their last 3 in a row. 3 of their road wins came in the first 5 weeks of the season when they were playing their "best ball of the year" against the likes of the Rams, Browns and Lions. Woo hoo! Their only other road win came against the Packers.

I think we all how the Saints have done this year at home and the advantage the Super Dome gives them. Aside from the last couple of games in the regular season, when the Saints were clearly resting ppl, they have dominated at home. But, here is the BIG reason why they will have success today...NOISE! Look at what the Vikes fans did to Romo and the Boys last week. Look at what the Saints fans did to Warner and the Cards. When the offensive line cannot hear, they are a split second slower, giving the defense a slight advantage on every passing down. Since the Vikes and AP have not shown they have been able to run the ball or take control on the ground for the last 7-8 weeks or so, I'm going to bet they won't have a whole lot of success today. Thus, forcing the Vikes into predictable passing situations and giving the Saints a clear advantage!

Bottom line here...Saints by 2 TD's or more. And with that said, we'll go ahead and play the Saints -3 and buy the half point for a little insurance (just in case, b/c we all know how important that 1/2 pt can be on the number 3).

I'm going to keep this one small...the Jets seem to be a team of destiny right now and with the Joes in love with the Colts, it makes me like the Jets even more. The Colts seem to have snuck by all year long. They've trailed in half of their games this year so that tells me they are a very good team to have won the amount of games they have won, but it also tells me they are beatable.

Anytime we're getting more than a TD and I have a top tier defense, I have to take a look. Anytime, that top tier defense is a top tier running team, I have nice looking play. Anytime those 2 factors are going up against a team who isn't a top tier defense, I'm ready to put my money where my mouth is. Bottom line here is I feel the Jets have a very good chance to steal a W tonight. We're looking at a total of 40 in this game (down from 41) so Vegas and the sharps both feel there won't be a ton of points scored in this game and neither do I. Can the Jets put up 17 points today? Yes. Will they hold Indy to 24 or less? Most likely. If the Jets score 17 or more this baby cashes.

THE KING IS CROWNED!

After years and years of battles, Mr. Thursday Night has finally been crowned as the king of college football. The final tally in the Bowl Challenge was Mr. Thursday Night 6, Coach K 4. We attempted to contact Coach K but he was unavailable for comment.

There will be a short break on the site mainly because nobody gives a fuck about the NBA and our NHL "expert," Slapshot Fraud, has not shown his face since a disgraceful 2009.

BOWL CHALLENGE CONTINUES

MTN and Coach K, aka the Mega Powers teamed up last night for two winners. Despite what Slapshot Fraud may tell you, UCLA dominated that football game and would hammer Temple 9 times out of 10. Two more games today, and we do have a disagreement between Coach K and MTN. Heading into today, MTN leads 1-0.

MONDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL

This summary is not available. Please click here to view the post.

WEST PREVIEW-LINGY DING DONG

There’s nothing like the Wild Wild West when it comes to NBA basketball. We all love the up and down style the west brings. The competitiveness. The star players. The stacked teams. Outside of Lebron and D Wade, there’s not much happening out East. But out west, outside of the Spurs and their boring basketball, there’s not much that’s NOT happening.

Kobe, Ron Ron, Bynum emerging as a star to lead the favorite Lakers. Dirk having a career year. Nash and Amare. Carmelo and Chauncey. Roy and LaMarcus. Kevin Durant. Deron and Boozer. And of course let’s not forget 2 of the best white big men, Birdman and Kaman.

Is this going to be another year where a team with a 50-32 record misses the playoffs? Is this going to be the year that the Clippers finally live up to the hype? To answer the first question, yes. the second….no.

Predictions:

1. Lakers – way too much talent plus they are the DEFENDING CHAMPS

2. Denver – Melo is putting up MVP type numbers and with Mr. Big Shot running the point, look for this team to make a run for the title

3. Dallas – with Dirk taking the summer off, he is going to make a run at the MVP trophy and lead his team to a potential title. When Howard returns healthy, look out for the Mavs

4. Portland – most talent top to bottom but do they have enough experience? My guess is no.

5. San Antonio – they’ll always be there but they don’t have the youth to last through 4 rounds of the playoffs

6. Utah – very talented team with 2 stars and depth, but they just don’t have enough to topple the big dogs in the west

7. Phoenix – hot start ends in cold finish and another early exit for the Suns

8. Oklahoma City – Durant is becoming one of the best in the league and will lead his team to the playoffs.

Lakers v OKC – a laugher for the Lakers in this sweep

Denver vs Phoenix – in one of the most exciting, high scoring series ever, the Birdman proves to be too much for Amare and the Nuggets take it 4-2

Dallas vs Utah – another exciting series with scoring everywhere. Young vs old with Kidd vs Williams. Dirk vs boozer. What more could you ask for? In the end, Dirk proves to be too much as the Mavs take it 4-3.

Portland vs San Antonio – Spurs run out of gas and Portland’s depth and youth is the difference.

2nd Round

Lakers vs Portland – Portland gives the Lakers a scare after taking game 1. Kobe realizes that he’s only got a couple more good years in him and kicks it into high gear to lead the Lakers to a 4-3 win.

Dallas vs. Denver – in one of the best playoff match ups in NBA history, Denver and Melo prove to be too much and Chauncey acts as Robert Horry and seals the deal late in game 7.

Finals

Lakers vs Denver – Lakers take the first 2 games and it appears there is too much size with Pao and Bynum. However, the Nuggets make some defensive changes and the Birdman proves to be the difference shutting down the Lakers inside presence. The Lakers still win a close one in Denver, and seem to be in control. However, Kobe once again returns to the resort where he got in trouble and does it again. He loses focus and this helps the Nuggets finally make the next step and win the series on the Lakers home floor in 7.

NBA PREVIEW

NBA PREVIEW…..KIND OF by: Lingie Dingie Ding Dong

First things first, I would like to apologize to you all for the tardiness of this post, I was busy with my precious little new born baby girl.

The last few years of the NBA has been no surprise. We all knew 2 years ago that a healthy Celtic team would take the cake and last year with Mamba, Gasol, Odom and the crew, that no one could touch the Lakers. And we were all right.

This year, I don’t think we’ll see much surprises anywhere either. Here’s a breakdown of what we will most likely see in the playoffs:

Starting out East:

1. Celtics

2. Cavs

3. Magic

4. Hawks

5. Heat

6. Chicago

7. Philly

8. Toronto

Celts vs Raps – this is a laugher and a sweep by the Celts. Too much talent. Nice run for Chris Bosh in Toronto though. See you in the states in 2010.

Heat vs Hawks – a repeat of last year’s first round match up ends the same way. Too much D Wade and the Hawks just can’t seem to get over the hump.

Magic vs Chicago – Chicago’s play last year vs the Celtics was a fluke. They are a solid team but lack a superstar. Magic win in 4.

Cavs vs Philly – Cavs squeak one out 3-2. Without Lebron, this might be the worst team in the league. Thankfully for the Cavs, Lebron can single handily beat Philly.

Celts vs. Heat – another laugher for the Celts. D Wade manages to win one game for the heat but Celts roll again 4-1.

Cavs vs Magic – in a highly anticipated match up of last year’s Eastern Conference finals, the Magic show that they are the superior team. Lebron does all he can to lead his team to victory, but Shaq proves to be the worst off-season pick up with his inability to defend the pick and roll. After the game, Delonte West goes postal on everyone but Lebron ending the Cavs franchise. Lebron ends up in New York, where the Knicks, even with the best player in the world, continue their losing ways.

Celts vs. magic – although the Celtics are old, they are also seasoned vets who can turn it on and off when need be. They did enough during the regular season to get the #1 seed and then rested. With the Big Ticket, Paul “I have the softest body of an athletic NBA player ever” Pierce, Jesus Shuttlesworth stroking the 3, Sheed adding even more experience and the underrated mastermind behind it all, Rajon Rondo, there is no one in the East who stand a chance against this squad. Rashard Lewis proves that he is one of the most overpaid athletes and Vinsanity’s old age comes out as he struggles all series long. Celts roll to the finals 4-1.

Heartbreaking loss on Thursday when North Carolina shit the bed in the 2nd half but a 2-1 Saturday brought us back to even.

SATURDAY RECAP/SUNDAY PICKS

By Mr. Thursday Night

Well F me in the A, two narrow losses in the college game yesterday. We had the right side with Wisconsin however 3 fluke, non-offensive touchdowns by OSU and some horrible coaching by Fat Biliema cost us. Coach K allegedly had another good day but I am unable to confirm this, no documentation at press time. Another narrow win for the Hawkeyes moves them to 6-0. Early thoughts on the game have me seeing it as unlikely Iowa wins in Madison next week.

On to the pro game where I must tell you I am starting perhaps the worst team in fantasy football history today. Due to bye weeks, injuries and shitty drafting, my lineup includes: Kelly Washington, Patrick Crayton, Tashard Choice and Beanie Wells. Unless AP goes off for 450 yards and 5 touchdowns, I am in trouble.

E-MAIL I GOT FROM LINDGREN

Well, unfortunately, softball is over for me this year. We still have 3 weeks left, but I broke my ankle last night while breaking up a double-play at 2nd. They didn’t turn it, btw.

The SS got all pissy and was in my face when I was laying there. I came in a little high with my feet, but as far as I’m concerned, I own every part of 2nd base as the runner. He needs to get in the air or get to the side or he’s gonna get smacked, which he did. Unfortunately, my right foot jammed into the bag and broke my ankle. I did put a big ol’ strawberry on the SS’s thigh, so it all evens out.

Here are my final stats, or pretty close to what they were. I think I had more walks, but our manager doesn’t always keep the best book.

Batting Average: .767 (5 pts higher than last year)
RBI’s: 153
HR’s: 2
Doubles: 9
Triples: 1
Walks: 39

We also keep some less traditional stats that are important, but don’t usually show up in the box score.

GG: 14
These are Gold Gloves and signify a great (not good, great) play you made. I play catcher and got most of them for blocking the plate. It’s manager discretion and he’s pretty good about being fair. You can pretty much assume that I saved our team 14 runs with each GG.

FT+: 13
These are forced throws you made the fielder make by running aggressively that ended with something good happening like an overthrow or error.

SB: 29
We count stolen bases even though you can’t technically steal. These are extra bases you took due to hustle when the outfielder or whoever lolly-gags the ball in. The manager and guys on the bench immediately say SB when there’s one in question and there’s usually not a dispute. It feels pretty good to move up into scoring position late in the game while everyone is chanting SB-SB.

If people realized how many extra runs you can score in a game, more people would pay attention to base running. You have to pick your spots and can’t be stupid, but a lot of guys don’t have half the arms they think they do and you can abuse them.

Our team takes the year off until January when we’ll lift 3 days a week. I can’t wait until next year. I heard Miken is coming out with a new bat and I’ve already started saving

FRIDAY UPDATE

By Mr. Thursday Night

Well we finally got that Thursday Night monkey off our back. Nebraska exploded for 27 points in the 4th quarter to pull away from the fraud that is the Missouri Tigers. Coach K went 4-0 last night, also playing Nebraska and mastering the MLB playoffs. If you haven't already, I suggest you head over to coachkwins.com and check out Coach K's new site. He's red hot right now folks. FYI-Matt Holliday=Bill Buckner.

Looking ahead to this weekend, I've got a few plays in mind. At this point I do not plan on taking Iowa -8. While I like the Hawks to win this game and perhaps win it easily, I don't like them enough at -8 to bet on it. Colin Cowherd of ESPN Radio just proclaimed Iowa -8 the lock of the year. More to come tomorrow.

LOCKTOBERFEST CONTINUES

By Mr. Thursday Night

Decent matchup in the Big 12 tonight as Nebraska travels to Columbia to take on the Missouri Tigers. Looks like a 90% chance of heavy rain so that'll make for some great football viewing unless of course you'd rather watch your team, your town, your Phoenix Coyotes play in Buffalo as they attempt to go 3-0 on the young season. I think the rain gives a slight edge to the Cornhuskers as they like to run the ball a bit more than Mizzou. The line is currently Mizzou -2 but we are going to go ahead and take the Huskers as an outright winner and expose the Missouri Tigers as the fraud that they are.

LOCKTOBER CONTINUES......

By Mr. Thursday Night

A winner on Monday Night caps an otherwise average weekend for Mr. Thursday Night. Although it wasn't posted on here, Coach K also hit last night to cap his incredible 3 day run. Coach K has been kind enough to continue to post some plays on HC&P however if you want his entire board head on over to www.sportsmoneymanagers.com.

Today we are blessed to have a one game playoff between the Twins and Tigers. Detroit sends young Rick Porcello to the hill against the Twins Scott Baker. I am projecting fat Miggy Cabrera shows up to the ballpark drunk and the Twins coast to the ALDS where they will be swept by the New York Yankees.

WEEKEND RECAP

Well this past week went just like the previous several have: lose Thursday, win big on Saturday, give some of it back on Sunday. Luckily, late Saturday Night, in a drunken daze, I stumbled into the online Blackjack room and took the house for all it was worth. The big winner this weekend was Coach K who went a documented 15-3. Still undecided on a play tonight. Should be a good football game though. Huge weekend coming up, keeping an eye on that Iowa/Michigan line. If it comes down to Iowa -6, the farm will be wagered on the Hawkeyes.
