ON THE CLOCK-MINNESOTA VIKINGS

Dr. Donovan

With the 22nd pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Minnesota Vikings select……………

The Vikings have been a QB away from taking it to the next level for years now. They have had a good enough defense and running game to be considered an “above average team” but now its time for them to get that QB to put them in contention. Sage Rosenfels may not be that guy however. I don’t see the Vikings finding their guy in this year’s draft either.

The Vikings have 2 gaping holes this year and could use the #22 pick for either of these. I suspect they will choose the best player at the CB or OT position. They obviously have holes at other places as well (WR and C) but the positions I previously mentioned are “must-haves”, especially for a coach who’s on the hot seat like Brad Childress.

If OT Eben Britton from Arizona is still available, which is very likely, he would fit nicely for the Vikings at Right Tackle. Uconn’s OT William Beatty would also be a serviceable pick here as well. If they don’t see a guy they like at the OT position at #22, the Vikings will most likely look at a CB. One player that might be available for them would be Illinois CB Vontae Davis who has seen his draft stock rise and then fall this off-season. One guy that is rising steadily is CB Darius Butler, also from Uconn. This guy had a ridiculous pro-day and immediately turned some heads.

I feel the Vikings could have been more of a player in free-agency this off-season but we will have to see how the draft goes. This team is close, but is the window closing?

With the 21st pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Philadelphia Eagles select............

  1. Good write-up on the Vikes. I could see them going with a WR at some point in the draft.
