#7-BRAD BANKS

Brad Banks arrived in 2001 as JUCO transfer and spent most of the season on the sidelines backing up Kyle McCann. During his limited playing time, Banks showed glimpses of promise but nobody could predict what would happen in 2002.

After a strong spring game, Banks led the Hawks to a 2-0 start before a disappointing loss at home to Iowa State. Little did we know, that would be the last regular season loss for the Hawks that season.

Banks exploded for 26 passing touchdowns and numerous more touchdowns on the ground while leading Iowa to a 11-1 regular season. Signature wins included a 34-9 beatdown of Michigan (with Coach K and Mr. Thursday night in attendance) at the Big House and a dramatic come from behind victory against Purdue.

Banks was named to numerous All-American teams, won the Davey O'Brien award and finished second in the Hesiman voting to USC's Carson Palmer. Brad Banks led the Hawks to its' greatest season in school history and for that will never again have to pay for a beer in the state of Iowa.
