MTN AND LPL GO HEAD TO HEAD!

Good morning degenerates! We have once again made it to Thursday therefore college football takes center stage. Tonight will be a special night for all HC&P followers as Mr. Thursday Night and Led Pipe Larry go head to head in what figures to be a best of 3 falls matchup for the Intercontinental title. The feature game tonight is Texas A&M at Boone Pick.....errrrrrr.......Oklahoma State University. Expect to see over 60 points scored and 900 yards of total offense as both teams are well rested and lacking dominating defenses. Tonight will forever be remembered as the Brandon Weeden breakout party who has had 2 weeks to recover from a minor thumb injury and still ranks 2nd in the country in passing efficency. Led Pipe Larry has made the mistake of taking A&M tonight and we have recieved early indications that Coach K will also be on the Aggies. Considering the day of the week, you can count on Mr. Thursday Night to lock this gimmie down. Take the Cowboys and lay the points.

MR. THURSDAY NIGHT

Good morning degenerates, tonight we will make it two straight easy Thursday Night victories as the Hurricanes of Miami travel to Pittsburgh to take on Dave Wanstache's Panthers. Sorry for the brief hiatus........I was still shell shocked from the events of Saturday Night during the debacle in the desert. Amateur hour in Tucson was a scene I have never seen before. Hawkeye fans, hope and pray for an Iowa/Arizona rematch in the Rose Bowl. I'll lay 22 points.

MR. THURSDAY NIGHT SATURDAY CARD

Boys, the day is upon us. After 4 years of waiting, the mighty Hawkeyes of Iowa have landed in the Grand Canyon State to take on the University of Arizona. In the past few weeks, I have been very concerned about this game for Iowa. As the week wore on, all we have heard is about how the heat would be a factor, the time would throw them off, how this is a good AZ team.......well you know what? The last time Arizona played a BCS conference team they got bitch slapped by Nebraska 33-0. While I do not expect that type of score, I do fully endorse an Iowa money line selection. The Hawks will get it done tonight, LOCK IT DOWN......AND STICK THAT IN YOUR PIPE AND SMOKE IT COACH K.

MR. THURSDAY NIGHT

We're ready to get back at it after a refreshing 3 day break. Tonight we have the lock of the month as Cincinati travels to NC State.

Also of note, we have been in contact with Coach K regarding contract negotiations however he has been running around with Fowler and Corso making terrible picks and claiming Michigan is back.

LABOR DAY LOCKDOWN

What a fantastic start to the season for Mr. Thursday Night. A 4-1-1 Saturday should have been enough to get your wife or girlfriend off your ass for at least a few hours on this extended weekend.

Tonight we have the best matchup of week 1. Boise St. should not be giving road points to any team and that includes Virginia Tech. If you are a legit college football fan, you will hope and pray the Hoakies take care of business tonight otherwise we will likely be stuck with Boise State in the championship game after running through their 3A high school schedule. This game reminds me of Boise's trip to Georgia a few years ago which resulted in a 35 point beatdown. Expect Tyrod Taylor to win the QB battle over Kellen Moore along with V-tech dominating both sides of the line.

#1-Ohio State Buckeyes

The Buckeyes are pegged to continue their reign of terror over the Big Ten by winning yet another conference title in 2010. Terrelle Pryor returns for his junior season poised to make a run at the Hesiman Trophy. Running back Brandon Saine should be the featured back in a capable running game and the defense should be stout as usual with the secondary being the only possible weak link. Senior safety Jermale Hines steps into a starting role this season and his play will be critical in determining the fate of the 2010 Buckeyes. The non-conference schedule sees Miami visit the Horse Shoe in what will surely be one of the better September games on the college football slate. During Big 10 play, Ohio State has two key dates: At Wisconsin and at Iowa. Should the Bucks get through those two dates with an unblemished record, the season will end with Ohio State in Arizona playing for a National Title. Ohio State will go 13-0 this fall and will bring the National Championship back to the Big Ten where the big ole schlongs play foooooooootball.

#2-Iowa Hawkeyes

Many Hawkeye faithful have pointed to the 2010 season as the year Iowa will have their best chance to make an impact on the big stage. The schedule sets up nicely with the key Big 10 games being played in Kinnick Stadium. A non-conference test at Arizona figures to prepare Iowa a Big 10 conference that looks to be as good as it has been in 10 years. The keys to the season will be the improved decision making of QB Ricky Stanzi and the ability to replace 2 departing linebackers. Outside of the LB group, the defense will be among the nations elite. Iowa boasts a collection of WRs that are as talented as any group the school has had since the mid 80s. The fight for the Rose Bowl will likely come down to Ohio State at Iowa late in the season. Iowa rack up a 10-2 record, 7-1 in conference play and be invited to a BCS bowl for the 2nd consecutive year.

#3-Michigan State Spartans

For the second consecutive year, Sparty is our pick to be the surprise of the Big 10. Always loaded with talent, Michigan State has been dubbed the Clemson of the Big 10 for their underachieving seasons. Talent returns on both sides of the ball this fall in East Lansing. Quarterback Kirk Cousins figues to mature after a decent 2009 season. All world linebacker Greg Jones leads a defense that could be tough to play against. In past seasons, MSU has fallen apart after difficult losses (see Iowa last year) and their seasons tend to spiral out of control. The non-conference schedule features a clash against Notre Dame however the other 3 games are cupcake city. The Spartans miss Ohio State and get Wisconsin at home. Michigan State will win 9 games this fall and land a nice bid to play in the Capital One Bowl.

Led Pipe Larry Picks of the Week

We'd like to welcome Led Pipe Larry to the HC&P team. LPL comes to us from a rival website with years and years of successful handicapping experience. Here are his top plays for the weekend.

1* BYU -3
1* UCONN +3

Thursday, September 2, 2010

#4 Wisconsin Badgers

The Badgers have been getting all kinds of preseason love this summer, however it remains to be seen if Wisconsin will be a Big 10 player or fall short as they have done the past handful of years. John Clay and Scott Tolzein return to power what should be a very good offensive unit. Questions remain on defense after numerous losses to graduation. The schedule sets up well for Wisconsin as a trip to UNLV and a home game against a weak ASU squad figure to be the only possible non-conference tests. The Badgers get Ohio State at home but like many of the Big 10 title contenders, travel to Iowa. Wisconsin will win 9 games on the season and 5 in Big Ten play which will land them in Florida to play in a New Year's Day bowl.

#5 Penn State Nittany Lions

Joe Pa returns for his 214th year in Happy Valley and many Lion followers hope it is his last. While Penn State has been a strong team since they joined the Big 10, outside of the 2004 powerhouse, they have made very little noise on the national stage. The non-conference schedule is highlighted by a clash at #1 Alabama. Big 10 play sees the Lions travel to Iowa City and Columbus. With steady Darryl Clark gone, it appears as though the keys to the offense will be given to true freshman Robert Bolden. Combine a rookie QB with that road schedule and 2010 very well could be a rebuilding season in Happy Valley. Evan Royster powers the running game and the defense figures to be stern once again. Penn State figures to win around 7-8 games this season and win 4-5 in conference play.

MR. THURSDAY NIGHT RETURNS

We are going to be picky this weekend until we get a look at the teams once they actually hit the field. Just one play tonight:

UTAH -3 VS PITTSBURGH

This is mainly a wager against Wanstache and not against Pitt or for Utah.

Wednesday, September 1, 2010

#6-Northwestern Wildcats

Quarterback Mike Kafka is gone but head coach Pat Fitzgerlad has build a solid enough program to rebound from losses to graduation. An early test against Vanderbilt will give us a better idea as to what the season holds in store for Northwestern. An otherwise unremarkable non-conference schedule should allow the Wildcats to begin 3-1 or 4-0. Couple that with the fact that Northwestern misses Michigan and Ohio State and you can see why Northwestern has an outside shot at returning to a New Year's Day Bowl. Dan Persa looks to be the front runner to take over at QB. The Wildcats will look again to spoil Iowa's season which unfortunately has become an annual occurrence in both basketball and football. Northwestern will finish 4-4 in conference play and 8-4 overall, another solid season in Evanston.

#7 Michigan Wolverines

It's all on the line this fall for Dick-Rod as the Michigan fan base has grown tired of average seasons and NCAA scandals. While QB Tate Forcier does return, I expect this to be Denard Robinson's job to lose. While extremely raw, Robinson does possses the skills needed to run Rodriguez's gimmick offense. While this offense worked at West Virginia, Rodriguez is now coaching in a legitamite conference with actual defenses. Should Michigan lose their opener at home against UCONN, Rodriguez can go ahead and pack his bags. While I expect Michigan to win that game, this will prove to be one of the few highlights in the swan song at Michigan of one Dick-Rod. The season may hinge on a home date against Iowa late in the year as many people have pegged this as a possible trap game for the Hawkeyes. Expect the Wolverines to finish around 7-5 and play in a bowl game far away from New Year's Day.
