ON THE CLOCK-DENVER BRONCOS

On the Clock- Denver Broncos

Dr. Donovan With the 18th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos select……… The Broncos have has an interesting offense. They fire their long time coach Mike Shanahan and get Josh McDaniel from the Pats, they try to trade for Matt Cassell and they end up losing their own Pro-Bowl QB in Jay Cutler to the Bears. Yes, the Broncos are definitely in a rebuilding stage and they have, holes-a-plenty, in the mile-high, Swiss-cheese defense. With Kyle Orton most likely to be the starting QB and Chris Simms being a serviceable back-up, I don't think they will go for a QB unless they really love Sanchez and he's even still there. The only reason I say this is because of Josh McDaniels history with USC QBs. The Pony's need to shore up their front 7 and badly. I am assuming they will switch to a 3-4 defense this year because of the Patriot background and the key to building a successful 3-4 starts with the DT. Remember, the Jets traded DT Dwayne Robertson last year to the Broncos because he wasn't good in the Mangini 3-4 system. Well here we go again. If BJ Raji falls to them, they will most likely grab him without question. I wouldn't totally rule out Ol' Miss DT Peria Jerry at one of there first round picks either, most likely at #18 though. The next step is to get some of those hybrid DE/LB types. Someone like Tennessee's DE Robert Ayers, LSUs DE Tyson Jackson or even Florida State's LB/DE Everette Brown. LB/DE Aaron Maybin from Penn State would fit in perfectly with the 3-4 scheme as well. Another position they may be interested in would be RB possibly. Beanie Wells or Knowshon Moreno may still be there at #12 and the Broncos need a legit starting RB. This will be an interesting draft for them. With the 17th pick in the 2009 NFL Draft, the New York Jets select………
